330D correct torque figure?
hi,
Currently have f10 520d and seriously thinking of a 330D in new year as think it may be more entertaining. While researching the car I have noticed that BMW quote the torque figure as 500 nm on some material and 560 nm on others. Anybody know what the correct figure is? It is 560 in the 5 series but I was wondering if BMW were restricting it in the 3 so as not to make it too quick? |

i've only ever seen it quoted as:
Max output (kW/hp/rpm) 190/258/4000 Max torque (Nm/rpm) 560/2000-2750 (413 ftlbs)

I thought the F10 530d had 540Nm against 560Nm in the F30 330D ?

Yep, according to their website, the F30 3 series has more torque than the five.
Anyway, that torque wouldn't make it "too quick" as its still less than the E90 335d. |

There is a link in this thread to a brochure you can download:
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=738486 that also says 560 NM. The websites are often wrong. I noticed when the F30 M Sport came out it showed the 0-62 of a 335i as 5.9 (same as the 328i). It is now shown correctly as 5.5. I’ve also emailed them in the past about incorrect tyre sizes shown for the E90 330d M Sport. |

From what I can see it’s not a brand new engine but the same aluminium N57 engine that was fitted to the E9X LCI models, albeit fettled with to give more power and torque. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N57 Yes, the 535d and 335d has two turbos. |

The current engine listed on the car configurator on the BMW UK website is the same for the current 530D GT, X3 30D, 730D and 330D.
The 530D is listed as having 20 fewer NM of torque but I'm sure it's still the same engine code (N57D30O1) and so could just be a typo?

One turbo and two scrolls as opposed to two turbos. Much like the N54 in my 1M as opposed to the N55 in the M135i. I wonder if we will not see a 335d but an M340d instead with Tri turbo. |

Not according to BMW, but who knows ... they're bound to sell a tonne of the 30D so they may buckle and release a diesel M version

That's about it. So a bit of "smoke and mirrors" by BMW, enabling them to use the 'TwinPower' name on all engines. HighlandPete |

You mean 0-60? So the 330D does it in 5.6, the 535D does it in 5.5. One tenth of a second. And that tenth of a second will cost you £11k.
And I think, in reality, driver ability will have more influence than engine performance (when it comes to things this close). 5ers are driven by fat arses - so the kerb weight will be more as well.
