Pricing will be announce Monday in Detroit
EDIT:
OFFICIAL PRICING ANNOUNCED HERE -- http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107142 I work in the auto industry and have been trying like mad to get someone at BMWNA to spill the beans. They said the wait will be over Monday afternoon in Detroit. He claims, as of yesterday, NOBODY at BMWNA knows where Germany is going with the pricing. Anything dealers are saying is a guess. Most people at BMW are nervous they are going to go higher than they really want. I am not even going to tell you what he told me his "guess" was but I will say my response was "you are kidding me right?" |

This coming Mon afternoon?
Does BMWUSA not set the price? If you are going to drop this kind of news, you have to tell us his guess. Which it sounds like is no more educated than mine, since no one at BMWUSA knows the price, according to your source.

I actually believe that almost everybody at BMWNA is pretty clueless about price--among other things. I can't see them setting the price; the bottom line is in Germany. If BMWNA people knew, it would have been leaked out already. So, these posts about "I spoke to BMW rep at autoshow X and he told me price was going to be around Y" does indeed sound like a lot of BS. Again, if the rep at an auto show really knew pricing, it would have been leaked a million times by now. A few top level BMWNA execs must be in on it, but I don't see them walking around talking price with your average Joe. Thus, I agree with Epacy that this guy's guess can't be better than anyone else's, so I am not even interested in hearing it unless this guy is a top level BMWNA exec.

This Monday afternoon at the detroit show 1/10. yes, nobody in North America knows the pricing even this guy. I did get the impression the US Sales and Marketing guys aren't pushing for Rs4 numbers but germany feels this car is worth a lot more than the e46 m3. My prediction for Monday is ...a fully loaded car will be $68,700 MSRP which will mean I will have an S5 in my driveway next year.

I think the RS4 is way overpriced. BMW shouldn't base their decision on the RS4's price. BMW can undercut Audi by $9-10k and sell the snot out of some M3s.

The "Your kidding right?" scenario that I picture would be the price being something like $52k base. If that happens you would hear Audi owners and MB owners yelling, "WTF!!!!" from their cabins as you blow by them in the rediculously awesomely priced coupe. And of course my reaction to the opposite end of the spectrum with a MSRP over say $62k would be, "Fuck off, I'll go buy a GTR".

Sorry if you read my post wrong or I was vague. I was just throwing out my "prediction". I still have hope BMW will take into account the pending reccession and softening market. The guy from BMW... lets say his "prediction" for a loaded car was a bit more than me. When I said "are you kidding me" that was a bad thing....... But again he was just guessing based on rumors around BMWNA.

57 would mean 10 over a fully optioned 335. There is some logic to that BUT that is base...so a 20k prem for a similarly optioned M. Ouch. If they wanted to go up market then they've done it. It better beat the 997 in a comparo for that kind of money.

Obviously, there are multiple ways to look at it though. I'm just offering up this one at the moment.

M5 was increased roughly 10% for the E60. I expect something similar for the M3, seeing as how closely the engines are related is a factor as well. 10% would mean ~$55k. I don't think it will be above $58k.

Well optioned/fully loaded in the mid to upper $60's is very much expected. I am hoping for $70< with gas guzzler tax. If the price starts edging higher, a 911S becomes even more appealing to me.
A 2009 911S (facelifted) well optioned @ $91,000 +/- with a $6,000 discount and no gas guzzler could become more attractive. I am loving my 335Xi coupe so I really want to own an M3, but I may not. I just priced a 911S (again) and even with Sport Exhaust and Sport Adaptive Seats (Roughly $5000) the price was $95,000-$96,000. Those options are desirable but hardly necessary. So, a discounted loaded 2009 911S @ $85,000 vs. a (potentionally) $73,000 M3 w/gg, that could be a tough one. Last edited by devo; 01-11-2008 at 09:21 AM.. |

M3 is a great car - don't get me wrong - but to Joe Public a 911 speaks more iconically. To price too close to the 911 is overreaching, IMO.
