Drove a 50i MSport on Friday with the MSport exhaust. It sounded pretty good to me (nice V8 burble) but no where near as loud as the MPPSK exhaust on my '17 340i. I didn't really hear any popping or anything, even when dropping off high throttle. It wasn't quiet like an Accord or anything like that, but I certainly wouldn't call it "loud." The 40i exhaust (currently can't get the Msport exhaust from the factory on the 40i) is also pretty tame.

Is there a valve that can be turned on in sports mode, or the exhaust sound remains the same at all time?

on the 40i, definitely no valves. On the 50i, neither I nor my CA could change the sound on the MSport exhaust so pretty sure that there are no valves. I'm sure that there will be an extra-cost exhaust option soon that will have the valves though, since they are making them for many of their other models.

I ordered 1MA M Sport Exhaust to my 40i and there is information, that the level of laudness is changing by using option comfort/sport/sport +.

There is even description that It is quite in comfort and much more laud in sport, etc.

Mine is the same 1MA exhaust but for 50i. It's standard on 50i in the US, but I don't see any detailed description about it. Could you tell us more about it please? Thanks!

Here is my translation to english from european BMW site:

"The M sports exhaust system offers a sound that matches the sporty character of the car. Programs are selected with the driveability switch. Dynamic SPORT and SPORT + driving programs are accompanied by exciting, expressive sounds, while more comfortable programs provide a more discreet sound suitable for long journeys."

I'm pretty sure there is a valve on the right exhaust pipe. Not sure if it is possible (hope so), but with my previous X5's and my current 340 M-Sport, I have jimmy rigged the opposing exhaust valve so that it is constantly open. With my 340, all I had to do was mash the gas in Sport Mode (to open the valve), then unplug the servo control wire. Works like a charm. I laid down under the new X5 when I test drove it and it had the same servo/wire set up as my 340, so I'm assuming it will work the same. Not a true M Exhaust, but my 340 sounds decent with nice pops and burbles.

Why not just clamp a glasspack exhaust in there?

My 35d with DHP and RaceChip GTS blew away the 40i in handling, body roll, acceleration and power. I was very disappointed.

Also, I have the comfort rear seats in my F15 and they make a huge space difference. These have been eliminated in the G05 so the second row feels more cramped.

I will be keeping my F15.

With the Race Chip, how many HP do you get out of your 35d?

That's pretty much what I've decided on as well. The G05 really isn't much of an "upgrade" for me at this point. Yes, the interior is nicer, but it's not like our F15's is crappy. If they make the DHP and something like the comfort rear seats available on the 40i for 2020 then they might get me. But that is only if I don't love the new GLE450/53 coming out this year, which will definitely have superior interior space. It might even offer better handling with the fancy new air suspension. At least I have until April to make up my mind.

I was hoping for this as well. Must have more 2nd row space!

Ok I wonder what the Performance of the 40i will look like with the RaceChip. Should probably go up to about 375hp or even higher, right?

It is the same engine as the F15, right? So I guess we should only expect the same gains an F15 would get...

NO... the F15 has the N55B30 engine, the G05 gets the new B58.
Can't believe you didn't know that, duuude!

Apples and oranges.

I am sure the 40i will not pull anything like as hard as my current M50D but then it will hold the revs 10x better and sound 100x better. But drink petrol.

So there is a compromise!

The B58 in the G05 is noticeably more powerful in daily driving. The F15 35i's were about 6.1 seconds to 60. The B58 in the G05 is getting to 60 in about 5.3. That's a huge difference and very noticeable in daily driving. My F15 35i has the M Power kit on it and the G05 40i still felt noticeably faster to me during my test drive.

OK so on the 35i (306 hp), what does the M powerkit bring the hp up to? My guess would be around 10% more so about 335 or 340 hp?

If you apply that rule to the 40i with 340 hp, the powerkit would bring it up to about 375 hp ?! correct?.

PS: Race chip Claims to make more than 400 hp in combination with the M40i engine.

M Power Kit is officially rated at 320HP and 330Lb/ft of torque - so +20HP, +30Torque on the the F15. Figure a similar increase on the 40i. I would look at the specs on the X3 M40i to give you a better estimate of what a similar power kit/exhaust would do. The upcoming M340i (382HP) is also another possible hint of what the engine could put out with a decent tune.

This is all just speculation at this point until tunes are actually released, but the base engine seems to have some decent headroom for extra power. Around 400HP/400Torque seems pretty reasonable to me, though fuel supply limitations will probably start to kick in. Plus we need to know what the transmissions can safely handle.
