Brand new battery DOA?

OEM battery is coming up in age and showing signs of distress; high discharge warning and slow crank on cold morning. Bought a new AutoZone H-6AGM battery with a 7/15 sticker on the side and upon putting in car completely dead. Swap back in the OEM battery and full power. I did the swap twice just to verify its not me. Whats the chances of the new Autozone battery being DOA?

I haven't gone back to the store but I will before the day is over. Just seeking out opinions or maybe I just can't figure it out, but i doubt thats the case.

*Autozone battery would power my trunk light very faintly and then shut off, OEM battery showed full brightness immediately after reconnecting.

If the battery was in storage for a year or longer without proper care it's dead.
