As someone who very much enjoys a VW GTI or Audi S3 but prefers the design language and interior material choices of BMW I'm excited to test drive one of these. It might be a great replacement for my BM3 Stage II F30 328i in a couple years. And it would certainly compliment my LBB M2 nicely. The hood angle is a little frumpy, but I think this car would look great on coilovers.

The Mercedes CLA I think has similar hood design elements.

Because the 2 gets the new interpretation of the classic kidney grille.
But instead of being full length like the 4.
The 2 Kidney Grille will be about half it size. But the outline of the Grille of the Gran Coupe remains except it's taller and less wide.
The C-Pillar quarterlight kink is also used.

I hate this new design trend where they cut back the hood/bonnet with this ugly straight line across the car! Looks horrendous!

I hate how BMW went away from the slats on the front grill. That and the roundel is what made it so easily identifiable.

Yeah, there are other purposes for why they are there ( crumple zones, aerodynamics,etc.). Just focusing on a design aesthetic point of view in order to not write one of the "blog-book" type posts. Yes there are a number of functional purposes as well.

This new 2GC is built on the fwd/mini(UKL) architecture, the next gen 2 series coupe is supposed to be built on the normal rwd/awd (CLAR) architecture I believe.

Here’s the thing. It’s ok for companies to experiment, but there’s an extreme that should not be reached, yet BMW decided to do it anyways. The reason why German cars appeal to me more than other cars is because they’re understated. German cars aren’t made to draw attention to themselves. They’re made for the driver to have confidence in his machine. When it comes to BMW, a simple sedan shouldn’t be as preposterously designed like this. It looks as if BMW’s designers were trying too hard to make a “cool” car. In reality, we all know the 2GC isn’t for the true BMW audience. It’s for the people who buy the car for the badge instead of the experience.

What you're missing is that the current "bmw audience" mostly just want the badge.

So is a GT2, GT3, etc. understated? What about a Mercedes SLR or AMG GTS? How about a BMW Z8? Oh, what about the i8? I could go on. None of those cars are understated; not even close.

This has been the case for two decades. The phenomenon is nothing new. There are badge whores in the Honda camp, Nissan camp, Ford camp, Audi camp, Mercedes camp, etc.

Ugh that looks ugly. I don't even know how they approved the rear end design. Looks like they took the read end from three different cars and put them on top of each other.

Horrible

Horrible design. Who are these designers, and who cleared this final design?

BMW has messed up its two iconic design elements - the kidney grilles and the hoffmeister kink - elements that all other carmakers bar Mercedes would give their arm and leg for. Not sure what BMW is thinking - with this abomination the H kink is completely gone.

Hard for me to decide whether this is more Sentra, Corolla or Focus.

I meant regular sedans under $60k. If you’re spending over $100k, then have at it with styling. My issue is the 2GC is a cheap little sedan by BMW.
