F30 or E90
Ok I already have a 2007 335i.
4door, auto. I saw a 2012 335i F30 4dr, Manual. 24k km. Which would you keep? My e90, zero issues, fully maintained.... Always. Turbos hav't failed yet and I am at 90km or 60k miles roughly. I really want a manual, but heard that the auto is better in the F30 line. Let's pretend, no warranty on either...., which would you prefer as a daily driver? DN |

Are you in to modding your car at all? If so, and performance is a big thing for you, the N54 motor has been more mod friendly than the N55 motor so far. That said, the N55 motor is the one in production now and for the foreseeable future, so I'm sure it will catch up and/or surpass the N54 eventually.
Having driven the new auto in a 328i loaner car, I can definitely say it is better than the current auto offered. The shifts are certainly faster, but I'm not sure what kind of power it can hold.

e90, dont like the F30. The only plus is more room in the back, at least I think so per the last time i sat in one.

I just spent 5 days in a F30, steering really is awful, and it does feel bigger, which at times is good, and others, bad. I park in a parking garage, it is more difficult to tell where the front end is. I do like the interior, despite being slightly cheaper looking.

F30 unless you have an LCI E90 which looks like you don't.

Over the past year I have driven an F30 for about a month or so.
I would not trade my Pre-LCI E90 for one. 1. It only looks decent on M-Sport trim level, otherwise too much crap in the front and rear. 2. The steering feels unconnected. Did I say the steering feels bad? Did I say I thought the steering was not precise. 3. hated the steering, see #2. 4. Definitely cheaper looking inside. 5. Door pocket sticks out too far. Felt like I was standing in a bucket. Don't like the F30.

Is wanting a stick your only reason for trading? I hope not.

I would argue that could be a persons biggest reason for changing cars.
I went from manual to auto and now want back stick. So Personally I would do it based on that alone. Although everyone so far brought up good points. Is the F30 sport or M-sport package? I think it comes down to additional options over what you currently have and price difference when you factor in how much you can sell your current car for. Could also think that as the F30 gets older along with your car prices will come down and when your truly bored or run into problems then consider the upgrade. |

I don't like the steering in the F30 either, but the e9x's aren't getting any younger. Anyone that wants to stay with BMW will be in one of these cars with electric power steering sooner or later.
I guess we can hope that BMW does something about it, but I'll bet most American buyers like the light steering. Maybe somebody will invent a mod for the steering... |

Take the new f30. It's not like driving a Honda Civic.... . It may not be as good to drive as an e90 but its not miles off. In many ways it is much better then the e90.

If you don't mind paying for repairs and maintenance, keep the E90. If you do mind, then F30 for sure. However, the E90 is better than the F30 in terms of driver experience. I was gonna trade in for a f30, not a chance. It's just not the same. I might even go for the new c class that's light years ahead. Even critics prefer the E90 over the F30.

I think u shd test drive it. After all it's u who would be driving.
Steering wheel is one issue which I personally don't like in F3x. Otherwise it's a new car n shd be good. |
