Want to install MSS but which shocks should i go with
I want to have the MSS springs installed on my g30 540 Xdrive. The current springs are H&R's but I think the shocks are worn because i hear and feel a lot of rattles an noises when hitting hard bumps.
I want to do the MSS springs and replace the shocks with performance shocks. I have been looking into the Bilstein's but would like a confirmation on them or another suggestion. Please advise. Thanks |

I peeking at the Bilstein B6 or B8, right now. The thing I'm worried about is the strut body diameter being the same as the OEM, especially for the rear. I'm currently trying to rectify an issue where the rear struts are somehow not shaped the same as those the MSS team used for R&D, even though they are OEM struts.
Would love to get a diameter check on the B6/B8 set. |

I have not been able to locate any additional info about this as of yet.
I am considering just doing the Bilstein's with the current springs H&R's, but I would hate for it not to meet my expectations after spending so much money for the install to have to do it again. |

I talked to Matt from ECS Tuning yesterday. I don't know why I don't just give them all of my business. They are so helpful, even when it's not related to anything they sold me!
They have a B6/B8 rear strut in stock, and he is going to see if someone can grab a measurement of the diameter off of it. They don't have a front strut in stock but I'm hoping I can extrapolate reasonable assumptions from the rear measurement. He said he should be able to get back to me today. On the other hand, if you do end up buying the Bilsteins, can you get a measurement of the diameter of front and rear strut bodies above the spring seat? |

Why not just go with the B16 PSS10? Matching Bilstein shocks with MSS seems like extra steps and unnecessary complications for largely the same results...

Not available for xDrive. Also, I already have the springs. Ran into an issue with them not fitting my struts. Long story but the end result is that I can't return them.

Fair enough. I always forget about the RWD vs XDrive stuff. Mine is RWD, which is a blessing and a curse lol

If it wasn't my DD or I lived someplace that didn't get snow in the winter, I would have opted for the RWD, for sure. KW is the only option for coilovers for xDrive, that I'm aware of. I really don't need to spend that much money, and am trying to avoid it. That's why I went with the MSS springs on OEM struts, but for some reason they don't fit on the rears. It's a whole thing that I won't get into.

UPDATE: Bilstein B6/B8 will not work with MSS springs. The fronts fit fine but the spring seat cup on the rears is too big around for the black springs to fit over. Confirmed by my mechanic.
