I don't see M140i happening on this platform at all, while M140e is plausible but not in the near future.

Keep in mind F40 won't have a full 7 year lifecycle, so radical improvements are more likely for the next generation.

All that I know coming for F40 are more variety of regular mass market B37/B38/B47/B48 and the 128ti as the GTI competitor.

Could this be the 128ti, which you mentioned in your post of upcoming new models?

EDIT: Guess you already answered.

This is a complete fail generation after the F20/ F21.
I don't know how could anyone be interested in this kind of "performance" vehicle..
M240i or M2 are the correct choice.
Just my perspective 🤔

I'd trade my e92 for one of these in a heartbeat if they were in the US

Rubbish video — from last year, not new...and I suspect it's the current M135i

The rumour was that the new M140 is a M135i B48 powered car with a hybrid electric system. This will boost the stock figures to 340bhp and 500Nm torque, that you get in the old M140i

It will never match the 6 cylinder goodnesses of the B58!

If they did an M140i now, it would be over 400bhp, to compete with the A45S, not the paltry 340bhp in the old M140i.

Hardy a complete fail mate! And you talk like 309bhp is pitiful.
Have you driven one? I was throwing mine around yesterday in a way the F20/21 would only have been an afterthought.

IMPO The F20/21 was hardly an all out head turner. Racechip box will take the car to 350bhp 500 torque (safely with warranty) but this will STILL be shit for the haters. DMS are all over this tune right now with even more power! It's a five door all rounder FFS.

Small cosmetic changes to car at minimal cost makes it look even cooler than it already was.

If you don't like the car why are you on the F40 thread. Or anyone else for that matter.

Just saying.

2021 M140i F40 Prototype Hits The Nurburgring

In the first video, as the mule pulls out, there is a normal M135i behind it in black. Suggests it's something different?

Autocar are also reporting along this line too, saying despite previously denying an M 1 series it is now on the cards...

It doesn't make sense for a F40 M140i to be using the B48 engine. Current BMW 40i badged cars are using the B58 engine.

As for the possibility of shoe horning a B58 straight six inside the F40's engine bay seems rather impossible even for a transverse mounted B58 might seem a very tight fit? I actually do not think it is possible for a B58 to fit inside a F40's engine bay.

And for a A45S competitor with 470 ponies seems to encroach nearly into the G80 M3/M4 territory. I would think the F40 would stop at the M135i. Usually the top of the line of every series would be M135i, M235i, M340i, M550i, M760Li, M850i. Just 1 M performance vehicle for every series of BMW vehicles.

As for the reason why Mercedes came out with A35 and A45, I'm rather curious on their marketing and product placement strategies. But I'm sure they have done their homework and they have their own reasons for doing so.

I agree and it's the same platform as the X2 and other models, which also stop with a 305Hp B48 and Astin gearbox mounted transversely.

Nothing can undo that I think.

I was quite sceptical of the aisin instead of the zf gearbox initially. After test drive, found it fast shifting enough

The aisin gearbox is even faster up shift and down shift after you code in sports plus mode. Not sure why bmw didn't enable this feature from factory.

I also think that the m2 is the direct competitor to the A45. It would be good if bmw added a m2 hatch similar to the z3 coupe
