This year I began to actively study smart home systems in general and ITFFF systems in particular. Are these technologies more secure today? I spoke with experts in IoT development, they talk about the reliability and security of such systems. What do you think about this?

Nope, because they still are as secure as the weakest link, and quite often that's the user.

Thanks to the original poster for all the information. It just shows how much is possible and it is cool the BMW has enabled this. There are cool things there that for sure.

I have not gone full with the home technology yet. I have some lights and a thermostat. The thermostat is great because I can set the temp on the way out of town and then change it back whenever I am headed back home. Even changed the temp for my wife while I was in the UK.

I was able to expose controls using Home Assistant and a spare raspberry Pi, also while integrating with Homekit/HomeBridge for additional automations on my previous i3s. Really don't even need a Pi, you can set up a virtual machine.

All sorts of cool automations possible depending on how your home is set up.

If you have iDrive 7, you can get Amazon Alexa in your car for some more functionality.
I want to say you can then have 'scenes' (Amazon calls them 'routines')

I don't have that feature, but I do have BMW connected linked to my Amazon account to let me check basic stuff like locked status, etc.
