Car Washing - Does this happen to anyone else?

Hey guys, whenever I take my E90 out for a car wash. The lock and unlock features always activate (I guess its from the water, car thinks someone is pressing door buttons.)

Its kind of annoying cause it beeps and lights, people think im showing off at the carwash.

Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a way to fix this?

Year later update: My solution just to be safe is pull out the metal the metal key and keep the fob inside.

Yes, take the fob out of your pocket; it's too close to the car and water running over the door handle sensor will activate it.

Should I just leave it in the car/ key hole? Will it lock itself?

There's always a chance it can be locked inside the car, my detailer accidentally locked an E90 comfort access key inside while waxing

My mirrors are coded to fold with comfort access. I have to keep my key about 20 feet away when washing or it will start to fold when I wash. One of the downside to programming that feature when washing your car.

Glad the F87 can't lock itself with the key in the car, this happens to me every time I forget to leave it in the car when I'm washing.

I've had that prb but it's an easy solution: if worried about locking yourself out, keep the actual key on your person and place the rest of the fob inside the car. Ofc, remember your fob's in there so don't leave it unattended.

Happy washing.

I always leave the fob in the car when washing. Not just specific with BMW Comfort Access, I have the same issue with other makes (mirrors fold on lock, triggered when washing car).

Although I have never accidentally locked a car with a fob inside (how would you do it without touching the other fob?), it has never concerned me since I wash my cars at home (and have a 2nd fob inside the house).

I guess it'd be a good idea to pull out the metal key and use it manually if the door gets locked

I always place the fob in the center cup holders. Never had an issue with it locking while washing. As others said, it’s an issue when washing and it’s annoying but predictable.

I love the feature where if the fob is in the trunk, the trunk won’t lock shut.

This happened on my BMW and Porsche. Leaving the key in the car seems to help.

Happens to me all the time on my '13 128i M-sport. Doesn't bother me. I believe the car should not lock with one key inside unless you have another one outside, but comfort access is capable of some weird stuff so I'd probably not chance it. Separating the "real" key from the fob and leaving the fob inside seems to be the best idea.

Same here, I've had the trunk open as well even though I'm not spraying the water anywhere near the diffuser. I just leave the key in the garage.

This happens when I use the pressure washer to spray the door handles. It reads the water pressure and thinks I'm locking/unlocking the car. I wash my car at home so I just leave the keys in the house. If I leave them in the garage, sometimes the door locks still get triggered.

After a bit of trail, it seems like leaving the key plugged into the slot prevents this and doesnt lock of the doors when im washing
