Heated door mirrors

Hi folks, how do you enable the heated door mirrors? I've looked everywhere and I'm i right in saying they automatically heat depending on external temperatures?

I stand to be corrected, but I’ve always assumed that the heated rear screen button activated the heated mirrors, and they timer controlled both rear screen and mirrors.

It's when you start the engine by pressing the start button..
