My M3 is no longer my daily
Maybe it's me, but driving the M3 everyday got to be a lot. Especially around here, where I was sitting in traffic every morning, and the DCT trans does not like that...
With the winter coming, i figured I'd let the salt stay off her. Anyone here drive their M in traffic everyday and get frustrated? Ps, these are pics after I did a paint correction on the X3

If you don't like how the DCT shifts in traffic, just use the paddles in M mode.
I had the same thoughts on my S4 (my first DCT) and I just got used to treating it like a manual in stop and go traffic.

I don't understand the DCT comment... put throttle mapping in efficient and DCT in D 1 or 2 and it drives like any automatic. |

I strangely look forward to sitting in (light) traffic when driving my 6-MT. Very surprised to hear this about the DCT, haven't read this before.

The sitting in traffic and is usually a complaint from the 6 MT folks because depressing the clutch again and again while making little to no headway can get tiring and annoying at the same time. You have an auto, sorry DCT, and you are complaining

No matter what mode you put it in, it will get a little jerky at very very low speeds while auto downshifting. And remember, it doesn't matter if you are in sequential or not, it will always auto downshift. This has never bothered me, but I can validate the behavior OP is describing.

The real reason for the X3 was two fold: 1. New job that is further away, I was racking up miles like crazy. On a lease, this is no Bueno. 2. I realized winter would be scary in the M3. I know, I know. There are people who say the M3 with snows is great. I just wasn't willing to risk it with snow piles everywhere and a low front bumper. In the end, in the last two weeks I've put 750 miles on the X and 150 on the M. Oddly enough I almost enjoy not drawing the attention and being constantly worried about my car everyday.

Heh, I see what you did there Ricky
Don't stir up the pot.....you know this DCT is far different, especially when doing manual shifting in sequential mode, than any "auto" out there

OP did you try the "light tap on the gas"? Explains it in the owners manual as well. Worked very well for me in my last M that was DCT.

Sounds a bit like the "Princess and the Pea" syndrome. I guess I'll find out in 2-3 weeks. But I don't think driving in traffic will be difficult after having daily-driven in stop and go traffic with a twin-disc race clutch...

I can also validate there can some jerkiness with the DCT, although for the most part I can control it and it doesn't bother me when it occurs. Of course, nothing wrong with a new toy for the winter if that's what you want to do.

Those would both be good reasons to spare the M3. For me, either with or without traffic, my driving my M4 makes journey more enjoyable. |

What does that even mean? Please tell us you didn't buy a car like an M3 to drive around in "D" mode......

6MT here. And I love DDing it. The only frustration I have is when the traffic slows and picks up just enough that you can't decide to put it back in 1st gear or 2nd gear.
