Satellite Radio not activated at dealer

I got satellite radio, but because I wanted nothing more to get out of the dealer and drive my car, I pushed them to do as little as possible for the PDI (e.g. they left all kinds of blue, yellow, and orange tape in the interior, I told them I would remove them ;-)

...but my satellite radio just says CALL 1-866-BLAH-BLAH to activate. When I call that number and input my phone number, it says no customer by that number. Do I have to take the vehicle back to the dealer or could they activate the free 1 year subscription without the car?

If you can see the Satellite radio menu entry in the iDrive/OEM HU then it is activated. Look for an ESN number in the same menu, call Sirius again and talk with a person. He/she will ask you for the ESN and then he/she will take care of the rest.

Yea, I can see the menu option and it shows me my ESN number and all the channels, if I select a channel, it just shows the 1-800 number. I'll give Sirius a call. Thanks Technic!

Make sure you tell them it is a BMW and you get a year for free, sometimes that gets overlooked.

^^^ def the sirius sat radio 1 year free is something the customer sets up bc they will ask you personal question. We usually ask the customer if they would like the salesman to sit in while they set up incase of any uncertainties, you shouldn't have any issues once you have your ESN number.

+1 They know that BMW gives you a year free so call them, give them your ESN number and they will activate it for you while you are on the phone with them

Indeed, I called them, everything now works. I had to *remind* them its free for a year, they acted like they had no clue (probably get bonuses for new full paid subscriptions), plus they kept trying to sell me subscriptions for *other* devices in my home... BARF.

I had XM on my previous car and though the car has been sold for over a year when I cancelled their service, they still send me reminders in the mail to re-activate the XM signal.

yea its a joke, there also very pushy, it must work though and they must get positive results with the gorilla type tactics or they wouldn't continue to do it.

So what if you can't see it on the menu? I took my 09 in for a software update lastweek and now my Satellite radio is gone. WTH?

Take it back, the update was not coded correctly to your VIN. There are several members with similar "disappearances" from the iDrive after a recent update.
