The 2020 218i gran coupe has 138 bhp however every year after that has 136 bhp did BMW change something for this to be the case I’m wondering why the values differ.

A change in 2hp is probably something extremely minimal

It may sound minimal but the 2020 f44 218i is 0.5" faster in 0-100 km/h than the 2021 (and later) models. That's over 5% faster.

Moreover, several tunes (mostly piggyback) for the f44 were developed having the 2020 model in mind and may not be applicable to later models (or were not updated specifically for them).

I’m guessing something to do with emissions regulations?

Or, it was too fast compared to some of the higher models and BMW thought there was a risk to cannibalise their sale numbers....

I don't think that the 2 hp has anything to do with it . the .5 second difference is probably to do with other things .

...like final gearing in differential, or a change in the ratios in the transmission, or the addition of more total weight.
