The new 2er front and rear end look absolutely horrendous!

I am so glad I bought the M2C now..

This area seems the most inelegant design element, looks like I will have to get OK with it.
I do not want to be negative, but BMW has a real design department issue.

Bingo, thanks for pointing that out, I did not know there was precedent for this shape.
It does not look good on the X2 either.

It's similar to the Cerium Z4 trim. Transforms when body color.

BMWGirl, I see what you are saying, I am quite OK with the Z4 final look, hopping the G42 looks as good in the final design.

Congrats on yours by the way 😀

I'm having trouble figuring out the grille inserts. Are they concave like the new Volvo? Also, especially in the renderings, it seems that they're closed off. Didn't your boy, Domagoj Dukec go on and on about the need for airflow in BMWs new engines? Or was that more bullshit to justify his horrid design? What's the consensus on the inserts?

The bumper design is always different depending on the model line. I wouldn't get too hung up on the lower part of the bumper, most importantly it doesn't have that fugly giant unbecoming grille. Let's chalk this up as a design win. Hopefully the giant grille doesn't carry over to the new G87, that would be asinine.

Ugly new "design language" will reach 2 series sooner or later. We all knew this was coming. Either make peace with it or move on to Porsche.

I'm going with bullshit.

Look at the grills on the G20. Closed. No airflow going through.

G22 meanwhile needs grills twice the size of the G20 for proper engine cooling?

Uh huh, sure.

I like it much more than the outgoing 2-series.

This one is more angular less generic and bulbous. Good move BMW—-one of the rare times I find myself saying that about BMW these days.

Fake exhaust is tragic though.

Fake Exhaust, Awkward angles, Disproportionate styling, overall look is wayyy too busy for a 2 series thats supposed to be a small and simple car. Yet another design failure from BMW. This is getting sad at this point.

Power Dome looks cool, everything else, not so much. Hoping the M2 looks different than that.

I don't know why BMW refuses to design a clean looking car. The 3-series, 5-series, X3, and maybe X5 get it right; but everything else is over-styled to varying degrees.

The current M2 looks so good up front...angular, aggressive, yet clean and timeless. This new 2er has some weird ass headlights and bumper. The rest of the car looks fine thankfully.

Excellent.

On the hood/bonnet pic I assume that's a reflection and not a ... power dome?

Also the rear diffuser section comes up nice and high on this model, lots of M and after market scope there.

Edit: Also lights is there just a single lens there ie not icon dual lens lights? Or is it stacked vertically like on the Z4 ... looks single to me.

G20 grill opening activates when the engine is hot. The car does run hot easily when driven moderately.
