Its early but let's talk winter tires

well the search is on now for a set. And to my surprise the bolt pattern is not
5x120 as most bmw have but 5x112. So my previous set from my m2 will not fit. I'm going with a r163a replika 18 inch wheel and michelin pilot pa4 winters 225 40 18. I ran same tire on m2 and it did good in winter but was on rwd car. On this xdrive should get even better traction.

Kothar agreed as a fellow Canadian I too have started to think about snows and rims. Do you have a picture of the rims you are considering that you can share and prices for those rims and tires?

Please share the contact info for your London tire shop. I may give them a call and drive to London if the price is right

Thank you

Traction is a function of the tire, not the vehicle, not the drivetrain. With xDrive, more tires can be under power and generate their inherent level of traction, but at four contact patches instead of two. The traction capability of each tire remains the same; it does not get better. The enhanced forward motion is a result of more tires with their existing level of traction being under power to move the constant weight of the vehicle. The tire's traction does not increase, and the car riding on top of the tires has no traction with the ground.

Well essentially that is what I meant. there will be 4 patches with power going down with weight of car vs 2 in the previous rwd setup. The stopping of the car will be no different with the same tire as stopping on ice/snow a function of the tread and specific tyre....albeit with the abs and other related nannies.

But I will bet that this car will be better at getting around in snow than the m2 I had with the same tires.

Yes, it should. And, even moreso if you stay within Michelin but go from PA4 Alpins to XIcexi3!

For the Canadian owners, the F44 M235i requires separate TPMS.

Hello everyone, I made a number of calls to tire shops in Toronto area and received mixed answers on whether TPMs are even necessary.

One shop that I have used numerous times to purchase tires said the sensors are not required as they are part of the suspension and owners will not need to purchase separate sensors.

this goes against what many of you have posted here. Hoping a BMW guru or genius can provide insights or even better share tech specs that answers this once and for all.

Thank you

I'm installing my winter setup in two weeks time. I thought the TPM would be a plug n play type scenario (i.e. Reset the TPM in idrive).
How would I go about cloning my summer setup to winters?

My tire shop did it all...I was going to wait and take them home and likely out do in 2 weeks bolt on but since there i said just do it now. Pa4 still has great dry handling. If tpms on your own I am not sure how you could clone them. These guys did it all in 40 min no errors in idrive I'm good to go.

Ordered a set of Moda split 5 spoke from tire rack with my dealer account. 460$ shipped to my door. Came with full hardware and centering rings. Sending them out to my friend to have sprayed metallic black gloss. Wheels will be wrapped in blizzaks.
