2010 onward 335i DCT's....

Did these cars have any common issues similar to those that effected the 07/08 335i's... Like coil packs etc.

Sorry for my ignorance, I dont know too much about the mechanics of cars.

When you say 2010, what specific difference about the 2010 range are you thinking of? For example, mine is a 2009 DCT 335i, so it IS a DCT, but it still has the N54 engine.

It therefore has potential to be affected by any and all issues which related to the N54 engine (coil packs, injectors, high pressure fuel pump) etc. An N55 car would suffer from different things which I know less about to be honest.

I am not aware of any specific DCT problems, except that the box is known to be comparatively weak vs the old auto or the manual and realistically, can only handle about 450 bhp and whatever the associated torque figure would be. My car is about 450 bhp and I dare say when I really boot it from 7th down to 3rd (which I rarely do intentionally) then it does hesitate for a moment, which could well the the clutch pack slipping. It could also just be that such a kickdown is ludicrous and the gearbox has to sort itself out.

Thanks. I only state 2010, as that is the car I'm looking at, although there is also a 2011 I am considering. When was the N55 engine introduced?

I just want to go into the purchase with my eyes wide open and aware of potential common issues. My 330 hasn't missed a beat over the last 2.5 years.

I appreciate any info. Thanks

If it's 2010, then I am 95% sure that it will be an N55 (which is the single turbo engine) so do a search for that, as it will be an early one.

They also introduced the LCI model in 2010, which means the car will have different rear lights and bonnet shape, so might be worth confirming if the car you're interested in was before/after that change and then doing some research on that. There might be some early LCI problems, but I doubt it.

I've thought about this too. The N54 is usually stated as being stronger and better for modding etc but if your not thinking of running 400bhp plus, is the N55 a better bet? It's more economical but does it suffer from "issues" like the N54?

Also what is the response like from the single turbo in the N55 compared to the twin setup in the N54. I've always been impressed with how "un-turbo" like the N54 feels, does the N55 have the same sort of boost\rev range response and if so, how have they managed this with a single turbo setup?

I think the single turbo engine is claimed to deliver peak torque slightly lower then the twin turbo (n54).
