Description: The DINANTRONICS X is the newest installment of the highly successful Dinan foray into inline tuning modules. Like its predecessors it is a highly engineered piece of computer hardware and software that enhances engine performance to levels the stock programming is not allowed to venture. It does this without affecting long term reliability or the functionality of on-board diagnostic systems when run under recommended operating variables. Unlike its predecessor however, the DINANTRONICS X is Bluetooth smart and offers convenient access to the adjustment of power levels directly from the palm of your hand.

A further advancement beyond its entry level little brother, the DINANTRONICS SPORT, X connects to additional inputs and/or has a more refined tuning strategy that yields more power as a result. For those that do not wish to (or can't) alter their stock ECU with a more robust engine flash the DINANTRONICS X is a perfect alternative to satiate the craving for "more". Whichever level of engine tuning is ultimately chosen you can be sure to be pleased by the result.

NOTE(S): Please refer to the recommended mapping notice on the bottom of the product page for important operating information.

493 seems awfully low considering the 2020's and up are supposed to be 523 HP.
I know its "to the wheel", but thats a 30HP drop from crank.

Your own figures mentioned on max power gains only account for a 6 HP loss from crank to wheel.
More Power: Max gains of up to +53 HP and +55 lb-ft TRQ (Crank); +47 HP and +48 lb-ft TRQ (Wheel).

Was a 2020 M550i on our Superflow dyno (emissions cell).

Crank extrapolation chart is on the product page / below for comparison.

If they are using a Dynojet just add 10% to the wheel figures and you are pretty close to what it would make at the flywheel. This says to me you are buying 600hp at the motor.

Post above came in at the same time as mine. Feels good to be right....

Most folks don't like seeing the crank charts as they seemingly are thought to be disingenuous or something so I got out of the habit of showing both. Keep both variants on the webpage though as a fair amount of folks still like to compare to factory ratings and thats always the easiest way to do so.

RK showed around 480whp and 550lb-ft at the wheels so the Dinan numbers are close given variability of weather, dyno etc.

I agree. Altitude, pressure, temp........they all factor in. I was happy to see the "stock" numbers Dinan provided though. It shows that BMW never reveals the "true" power of its M and M light vehicles. These M550's are the ultimate "Sleeper" cars on the road. Crazy fast, but 90% of the drivers would never suspect it.

Am I reading correctly that peak hp stock is 552? That is really something!

Sure is! I've been waiting to see what stock numbers are on a Dyno. Really impressive.

My first thought in looking at the dyno chart was the exact *opposite*. A drop of 30 HP from crank to wheel seems incredibly low for an AWD vehicle. That calculates to a 5% drive train loss. AWD drive train losses are more typically 10%-12%.

Somewhat off-topic, but any plans for a carbon fiber intake for the 2020+ M550i? I know performance gains are likely marginal, but your M5 CF intake looks very cool. Would love something like that for my M550i.

I already asked them. Cant do it because of a slight design difference between M5 / M550 intakes. The M5 is a completely closed system. The M550 is not.

Comparing the wrong numbers. Peak wheel HP is 493 versus peak crank measured is 552 (not 523 which is just what BMW rates it at). That is a 12% loss. BMW underrates M cars and V8's in general pretty regularly.

Not currently in the plans but who knows what may happen down the line.

Bmw needs this car to make 523hp everywhere in the world with varying conditions and fuel quality. It might scrape the stock horsepower at the top of a 6000ft plateau in South africa in the hight of summer. Then the same car at below sea level in Holland during a cold winter will make +40hp over.

Bummer. Wonder if anyone else will come up with a CF solution. I know the gains are marginal (if at all). These CF intakes just look so cool though . . .

I wonder what BMW's unit sales are for the M550i vs the M5? Am I crazy to think that BMW sells more M550i than M5?
