Spoiler winglets

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
The European cars have the winglets on the sides of the rear spoiler installed opposite from here in the US. I don't know if anybody has noticed that.

I flipped mine over (two torx screws - 60 second job) and I like the look of the car WAY better. It changed everything for me. Anybody else notice that, or made that change? Pro's or cons?

When I asked my dealer, they said US DOT regulators made BMW change it for improved rear visibility. Thank you, Mr. Government!

You are totally right on the reason why they were delivered upside down in the US. DOT regulations due to the fact that they partially hide the top center brake light wiewed from 3/4 rear sides.
I switched mine last week as well. Looks much better and probably more efficient as well.
I put a little bit of blue loctite on the screws just to be safe.
I do not see any cons...
That is the way they were meant to be.
Got the fire extinguisher as well (another DOT issue - was not up to code in the US)

I didn't notice it...until I noticed it, and then I realized how awful it was!! The car has a totally different and much improved look when set to the ECE position.

I live very dangerously!

What are other opinions of the different looks?

+1. It couldn't be easier. Just use a #20 torx bit, remove two screws per side, flip the winglet (apply thread lock if you wish) and retighten them back up.

The entire project lasted about 90 seconds for both sides in total.
