E90 iPhone 5 playback?

Hi

I just picked up a 2010 320d m sport business edition.

It has the wide screen sat Nav, usb in armrest and usb in glovebox.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to play music from my iPhone 5 using the lightning cable. It just says not supported.

I'm so confused. There is also the space for an iPhone snap in adapter.

This is really disappointing I traded in my civic which was just plug and play and worked so well with my iPhone.

Thanks

Is it a genuine apple cable? I've got the genuine BMW Y cable and genuine apple lightning cable and my 5 works just like an iPod

i've found that usually pre-2011 need y-cables and that the new vehicles the y-cable does not work and they only work through bluetooth or the apple cable

It's a genuine apple lightning to usb cable. Worked fine in my civic.

Can someone explain to me the code names you know the 6NL and all that jazz?

I have:

1. usb and 3.5mm in armrest
2. Space for snap in cradle in armrest
3. Usb in glovebox

It won't work with the Apple cable because you don't have a Combox in the boot. It can be fitted but isn't cheap. You can playback music if you buy the correct Y cable from BMW - £70 IIRC.

6FL is the USB interface.

The USB in the glovebox is for loading music onto the CIC Nav hard drive.

As above you'll need the Y cable, I tried it with just the apple USB cable and it won't read it. Keep an eye out on eBay, I got my genuine Y cable second hand for £12

I see.

There is a combox currently for sale in the classifieds, if I bought it what else would I need for it to give me full iphone integration??

Thanks

You'll need to get a wiring adaptor from your MULF/TCU to the combox & then have teh car coded. Personally I wouldn't buy a Telematics Combox, the Media version is the one to buy.

Care to explain why not telematics combox?
It may be that I help you to have your concepts right or vice versa?

PS: fitted telematics / media combox on many cars....

I was under the assumption that the telematics combox was usless because you couldn't swap over the IMEI numbers?

I'm happy to be corrected.

I know you have fitted many comboxes, I follow you on FB, impressive stuff!

Just an update: I managed to get hold of the bmw lightning y cable a few days ago, and it works quite well integration wise, but the sound quality is dreadful!

hearing a lot of hissing and absolutely no mid from the speakers when using the y cable. radio sounds fine but i'm yet to test with cd/usb stick i will try this tonight.

Sorry mate, did not want to be rude so asked you.

You can fit combox media or telematics and both will do exactly the same job depending on the wiring and coding.

You are not going to pay bmw to use their telematics services therefore that part of telematics combox become redundant.

Hope that make sense.
