M performance steering wheel?
Hi!
I have a X1 XDrive 20d with M-Sport package (Euro Spec), and I am wonder if it is possible to install the M performance steering wheel, its only differences from the one I have are the Carbon Fiber trims and Alcantara instead of leather. Which parts should I buy? For example, this would work?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-M-Perfor...-/171679874190 |

I don't think so, there may be some customization needed. That said I can tell you at least in build the steering wheel is identical to the F8x M3.

Unfortunately the F48 X1 has a steering wheel that is different from most other models.
It is shared with only the 2 Series Active Tourer and 2 Series Gran Tourer. So that steering wheel will not work.

I was quoted £150 to Retrim the X1 wheel in alcantara. Then just wrap the trims in carbon?

The easiest way would probably to get the wheel re-wrapped with alcantara and buy aftermarket CF trim for it.
BMW does list a different part number for the F48 M-sport wheel compared to the rest of the car lineup, but it's anyone's guess as to what the actual differences are. It could be a simple a difference as a different grade of leather or different stitching pattern - in which case the Performance wheel should fit no problem, or something bigger like a difference in the splines where it mates to the steering column that would make the Performance wheel physically incompatible

In my opinion, yes. I had it in my m5 and in a Mini and the parts you regularly touch develop wear marks as the material gets pressed down. It is wonderful to hold but not something I would want for long term use.
