Yeah, I think there was a typo in whatever article everyone keeps referencing. There's no way.

Here's the quote from Car & Driver's X7 page it is also mentioned in their review of the X7 LCI:

"The xDrive40i we tested scooted to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds; while no slouch, the V-8-powered M60i model did the same in just 3.8 seconds"

Probably with 1 foot rollout on a prepped surface. Given no launch control I doubt you can go < 5 seconds on the streets.

Edit: does indicate 1 foot rollout

That's what they claim. Even with the 1ft roll out, I doubt any one with a 40i can achieve that time. That 1/4mile time is also unachievable by a factory 40i. Until someone can post a video (draggy), it sounds like the car reviewers got suped up versions of the 40i.

Hyperbole or for real? I’d love to be fearless enough to do that

Tinfoilzhat 4.14 isn’t hard at all for the M60i. It’s actually quite easy. Many testers (mat Watson from Carwow) hit 0-60 in 3.9 seconds while the road was wet. Crazy what this car can do.

I apologize for hijacking the thread...

So many peeps saying they were able to get xx.xx in 0-60, but some how they don't have any proof, or refuses to post any.

4.14 on the 2023 with a 1ft rollout, very achievable. Considering that I, myself, got 4.29 (1ft rollout) without any prep work on a non-ideal day with a M50i.

Here is my best 0-60 and 1/4 mile run for my 2020 X7 M50i. 1ft roll out is 4.19s. This run was done on a quarter gas tank, 22" summer tires, tire pressure BMW recommended, no passengers, 91 octane with no ethanol, on a non-windy day, and just had my car washed .

Incase some one says the draggy pix is not legit, here is the video.

Now, I want to see a non car reviewer run some numbers on a 2023 40i. Any takers?

I stand corrected. Still seems like a hell of a run. Even with the M60 posting a 3.8. I would venture a guess that these are the lowest stock numbers you'd find anywhere. Must have been IDEAL conditions.

Back to the original question. I've used LC probably around 40 times, definitely at least 25, over the past almost 2 years / 15k miles. The transmission hasn't blown up yet lol.

And aside from using the official LC function, I've done many many more instances of brake torquing from a stop and general hooliganry. When on clear roads, U-turns and left turns from a red light are almost always done with *lots* of throttle. I switched to 19" wheels and at first I was concerned about the lateral force on the tall sidewalls, but the tires/wheels have worked flawlessly.

I only need the engine/transmission to last another 4 or so years / 60k miles until I get the new electric iX7. So not too worried about the car breaking before then.

I do wait for oil to be at or close to operating temp before going too hard on it. You can check in the sport displays menu (I have that bound to one of the 8 shortcut buttons on pre-LCI) and you can also "Hey BMW, what's my oil temperature?"

My wife just got the IX M50. Holy crap that car is a rocket. It hits so hard it can be a struggle just to keep the steering wheel straight when the G's kick in. C&D posted a 4.0 0-60 time for that car and it feels every bit as quick as that, if not more so.

The problem is now the '24 M40 X7 feels like a snail in comparison. So yeah agree that 4.6 for the X7 is unlikely; BMW themselves say 5.6, which feels about right. Kicking myself big-time now that I didn't get the M60 X7...

That IX acceleration is addicting and fun as hell!

Am wondering the same for a real-world time for the X7 M60i 0-60 which BMW conservatively publishes as 4.6s. I have seen YouTubers deliver as low as 3.91s but has anyone gotten close to this…?

^^^^^
I substantiated this claim with my 2020 X7 M50i on 21” wheels, half tank of gas. I am at 600ft above sea level at 80 degrees when testing this. Sunoco 93.
My wife can mash on the pedal in “sport+” mode and achieve 4.4 seconds all day long on my draggy with two of us in the vehicle. When I am driving and load the pedal/brake, I can get 4.1 to 4.2 seconds. I found this slightly faster than using launch control if done right. I know that if I raise the pressure in my 21” tires on a 60 degree/low humidity day and with less than 1/4 tank of gas, I can achieve 4.0 seconds and maybe slightly under.
Many have shown that launch control on the BMW is not always the default fastest way to launch.

The take away here is even sitting at a stop light in sport mode and mashing the pedal, the V8TT will give you reliable and lo effort launches that will embarrass other “performance cars” that want to play with the big BMW dragin wagon.

The M60i can easily achieve 3.91. I can already do that with my M50i. However, I don't believe the 23 40i can hit 4.6.

I have a 24 x7 40i with racechip gts black, I hit under 4.6 actual (without 1ft rollout). But that is without launch control as I cant get it to work. I finally got it to work in the 23 x5m but still no go in the x7. the 24 x7 has ~40hp more than the 23 x7...

Did you use draggy? Please post what you used to track your runs. I believe with a racechip, 4.6, or even 4.5, may be possible.

I have gotten 4.6 seconds without launch control so the car will do it. In fact I have never engaged launch control. I never cease to be impressed with the acceleration of this heavy SUV. It puts a smile on my face every time.

Nice! You definitely should try it once and report back. After I had my 40i for a few weeks, I tried it and it had me giggling like a kid. Changed my perception of the beast.
