Why not? It's a BMW so it will surely be optional if you're worried about weight...
Yes in know you can save weight and cost by not spec'ing them, I'm just quite surprised cars like the 3 and 1 need them.

Times change I guess and TBF its great BMW offers choice. To me as a dinosaur totally unnecessary and there's plenty of other areas I'd rather money was spent.

ETTO.

Another bland new product from BMW. To be honest it could have been designed by Ford or GM it's that uninspiring. Another step backwards

I own a M140i and it's a fabulous car but I can't see myself changing it for a new M135i.

I've got a fix for that. Put the engine the correct way around and make the car RWD
Then you loose space for same dimension, there is a reason why almost all the small hatch are FWD

I am not sure I like the look of the exterior. It is a very generic shape, like a Seat Leon/Ford Focus.

But like all these things sometimes they grow on you and before you know your buying one.

No mention of a hybrid electric for now. But a 6 speed manual is standard in the Italian market. I hope that it is better than the B Class 6 speed that I am driving in Italy right now.

Should come here. Seems like every second car is a Golf R. A lot of car for $42k out the door.

the first generation was offered as a hatch (3 or 5 doors), as a coupé and as a convertible
More details here

The second generation was only offered as a hatch, and the coupé and convertible were called 2 Series

We still have the 1 series, so since cc3 lives in the UK, he's probably talking about this

Not news; most of us already knew BMW was heading downhill with FWD—-but the reality is worse than expected. This thing is totally uninspired like they just gave up altogether. I get the feeling BMW has just given up these days...

The saddest part is even if this was RWD it would probably not drive well lol...

Why does the non-M135i model have the nonsense singular one sided exhaust pipe? Hello is this the 80s?

The good news is that this is the interior the x1/x2 will get for us over in the US. We'll lose that horrible tall shifter and hopefully get seats that are big enough for adults. This should also end up in the m235i gc we're getting.

Exactly. Sir Alec Issigonis figured that out somewhere around 1956. For BMW to accept this architecture (and resultant platform sharing) flies in the face of its design ethos for the past 50 years or so.

Not until the next generation unfortunately. Spy pics of X1 LCI show a largely unchanged interior.
