I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the list of standard options. Is this the first time BMW has made CarPlay standard? On the G20 for example, you have to get the larger iDrive screen with BMW navigation and the digital cockpit in order to get Apple CarPlay.

I saw this car at the auto show. It's just as disappointing in person as it is in photos. The only reason, and the only reason this car will sell is because it's going to be cheap. This is the direct replacement for the 320i for the American market. M235i is DOA just like the X2 M35i.

I don't like the car but I will live with the the fact that it will help sell more cars and bring in the bargain hunters who drive Nissans and Toyotas.

About time you can get a 2 Series with blind spot detection. The fact its standard along with frontal collision and an option on an M340 is ridiculous

Yes, I saw the m235 at the LA auto show in person and did not like it at all.

That's why sedans outsell coupes at roughly a 10:1 rate (of course SUVs/trucks now sell double the two together).
Completely agree. Some people need four doors vs 2.

I don't like the car either but it will sell well and not just because it is cheap. Remember that 9 out of 10 buyers of the former 1 series - the RWD one - did not know what wheels were driven.
For all of us car enthusiasts, can't wait for the next gen 2 series coupe!

How could they not know with the staggerd wheel setup? It's obvoius. I don't think that's true, at least on the 1er bimmerpost forum.

Any 1 series on the bimmerforum is not average drive... I mean I know people who tell me the best thing about their BMW is the V6 engine...

Looked at the standard option and pricing I think this will sell reasonably well

My brother bragged about how his X.3 was a V-6. After I noted that our cars had the same engine.

I see so many 1 series and first gen X1 with winter tires only in the front, and also second gen X1 with winter tires on only the rear.

It happens.

Most people don't even know what a staggered wheel setup is. I would bet most of those in that's survey wouldn't know that their Kia was fwd. I think most drivers don't know fwd or rwd. They just know that when they step on the right pedal the car moves, when they step on the left it slows down, and if their car says awd on it they will never get stuck

If that's the case then I'd get a low mileage 340 or 335 which will cost much lower than the new M235. This name tag puts to shame the original M235 with the N55 I6.

This car with a front transverse mounted engine would have never been considered. That engine configuration puts it on the same field as any other compact fwd based vehicle.

It's a travesty, but we should all be used to it after a few years with the X1/2. Maybe BMW determined that today's yuppies don't care about drivetrain layout, but I would argue you can always tell the difference in looks and feel.
Blame it on the youths of today, most don't even know the difference between RWD/FWD. It's not BMW's fault, it's all about supply and demand.

I'm not particularly thrilled to know that my M235i 6 cylinder, RWD and Manual will share the same name as this car.

I think I like the proposal of the car, which in my opinion is kind of to compete with the audi S3, but without the RWD bias or the manual transmission, I'm not seeing the point of getting one.

If it's automatic and AWD, why not just get an audi?

So I guess the M235 GC is competitively priced with the S3 (although that actually starts at $43000), but to be honest if I was going to buy a FWD based car I would just get the Golf R or the Golf GTI for that matter rather than this and save a good chunk of change.

I guess 38k is not too bad compared to a now 6/7 year old CLA250. Exactly 1000 more.

I owned a CLA250 back in 2014 and loved it. It's an alternative to the boring 1/2 series or A/B class.

And a smart way for the Germans to enter the yuppie/dinky market.
