BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Enters Production

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Interesting reading here about the Leipzig plant and how they have made some changes to accommodate the manufacturing of the 1er and 2er.

The article also confirms that the 2GC has begun production.

Is there any information whether the 2 GC will be imported into the US?

I could care less. BMW would have been much better off making a GC version of the 2 Series Coupe.

I know. FWD costs less and takes up less room. In a small car that can be important. But BMW has proven, repeatedly, that it can make a small RWD car.

I think BMW and MB are ultimately hurting their brand by taking it downstream. But then again, what do I know.

They should have called it the 1 series GC.

Since the 3-series has become too large and disconnected, it made sense to introduce a fun little sedan beneath it.

BMW's solution:

I bet the reviews will place the Ford Focus RS above the 2GC.

That's yet to be determined.

If I weren't such RWD snob, I would consider this car. And frankly this is a good option for someone coming from a MINI...

What I hate more than this car itsself, it’s the way all BMW’s are referred to as “THE” nowadays.

“THE 1”
“THE 8”
Etc, so cheesy!!!

I don’t think it’s that bad and would even consider as a daily driver in addition to a second hi performance car.

The German "großes Coupé" roughly translates into "sedan with no head room in the rear".

They have been doing this for years, just to confuse us all.

It's for folks that have to fit their gran in and out of the rear seat because she won't get into a 2 door without complaining. Don't worry, she's so hunched over she won't notice that there is no head room back there.
