BT scan code help - error 2A16

2A16:
2A16 DMTL diagnosis module tank leakage, finest leakage
Error will cause a warning light
Error is not currently present
Test conditions have not been completed
Signal or value below threshold

Event 1Odometer 6792kms 4220miles
fuel tank filling level 21.00 l
DMTL diagnosis module tank leakage, current reference leakage 25.78 mA
DMTL diagnosis module tank leakage, current diagnosis end 25.78 mA
current time DMTL diagnosis module tank leakage measuring 256.00 s

I have gotten this code before. It seems to happen when I go to fill up the gas tank and it is around 3/4 empty. I start filling and I can only slowly feed gas in without the pump clicking off. When I get to over half full, then I can fill at the maximum pump speed. If I fill up with more than 1/2 a tank the problem does not occure. Any help? sounds like a sporadic fuel vent issue or something like that. It does not always happen when I fill up with the tank below 1/4 full but more times than not it does.

I seem to be having this same problem myself. Anyone else had it and able to advise how they resolved it? Equally, is it a problem we can just live with? Would clearing the error code prior to an emissions inspection still get it through the test?

I recently purchased a new gas cap, weirdly as soon as I fitted the gas cap I got the SES warning on the dash (I had cleared it some 100 miles ago). What worries me is that it looks like the gas cap I was replacing wasn’t that old and I think maybe the previous owner had a similar problem.

Anybody? Been having this code on and off, when I clear it, it takes about 3 months to come back... This has to be fairly common, what is the DIY fix?
