This may seem like a stupid question, but is the brake rotor on the m235i all one piece, or it it sandwiched between a second part?

The reason I ask, is it looks like the rotor hat is a different material than the rotor itself.

So basically is it hub->rotor->wheel, or hub->rotor->something->wheel?

Rotors are made up of alloy bell and steel disc rigidly mounted to each other mounted onto hub carrier / axle.

Probably just looking at some kind of anti-corrosion material put on the rotor (zinc dust/paint/or prohibitive coating) gives the hat and vanes a different color to the part of the rotor that comes in contact with the pads.
