Yawn. Other than the awful seats, the Bolt's worst feature was its exterior design, and it still is here now with a weirder face. The interior looks better, but its using the same old battery tech. With Tesla getting the $7k credits again, I don't see much reason to not get a Model 3.

Is that official? I thought that it was pending legislation (albeit legislation likely to pass).

Also, the Bolt's MSRP was cut with the introduction of this new model - it now starts at just under $32,000 (down over $5K). If Tesla gets the credit, GM should too, which would put this at $25K to start.

I do think there's some validity to your point about value. However, given the hatchback form factor, the FWD drivetrain which in some regions will get more love than RWD, and the continued uncertainty about Tesla build quality, I think there's a place in the market for the Bolt EV (and others like it). We'll see if the price cut moves the needle at all in the sales race. GM has competition from Nissan and Hyundai/Kia to contend with too since they offer similar form factors.

I believe you are right that its in the legislative process, but I expect it to go through with our current government. I believe GM would also regain the rebate.

The UEV in the picture is 34k starting. But I agree with what you said and I think the big difference will be in leasing where you can actually get good lease rates. If you pick the 32K car version then you'll probably see a good 8k difference on a lease over a 3.

True, and I'm aware, but I was specifically referring to the updated Bolt EV which also gets the weird face stein_325i referred to. The two do look very similar, but both are included in the set of pictures the OP posted.

Indeed, Tesla lease rates so far haven't been very attractive. We'll see if this changes in response to new EVs arriving with lower starting prices.

I'd still very much love to see some direct Model 3 competitors - that is, RWD electric sedans (or better - fast-back hatchbacks) starting at < $40K - from traditional automakers. Unfortunately, the Big 3 are pretty much out of the sedan game, so we won't see anything like this from them any time soon. But I remain hopeful that perhaps we'll see an entry from VW or Honda or Kia in the next few years. All three have signaled their intention to build affordable EVs on dedicated RWD-first platforms, including some adopting car form factors.

Agree, I'd like to see some compelling EV's from outside of Tesla that don't start over $100k (Audi/Porsche). So far nothing on the lower end has been compelling other than the Mustang Mach-E in my opinion.

Yes, these are mid-cycle updates to a legacy vehicle. The BEV2 platform will be EOL'd after these models finish out.

Hyundai Motor and Nissan are in the same place with their current lineups. It's all still legacy today, but new vehicles using each automaker's new multi-motor, AWD capable dedicated EV architectures are imminent.
