340i first service

evening all

approaching first service in the next couple of months - car will be 20 months old and approx 13000 miles in.

been quoted £310 inc VAT at Sytner which for oil and microfilter is a bit much! They would reduce if i supplied my own (to BMW spec) oil. Does anyone know if this practice has any negative affect on warranty?

also, the new service inclusive 3yr/36K pack - anyone know the price? ive heard £399 mentioned, if this is so its probably worth the extra 90 notes to get the chance of second inclusive service. I think (?) I can but it any time upto the car's first service. Then that (first) service is covered.

Thanks in advance for any help

Garry

I've been quoted 330 and thought it was extortion and told I can't supply the oil, but not having a BMW service in the first few years is probably a bigger hit than £330

I wasn't planning to do as many miles in this car...so didn't get the service pack...

I'm now thinking... what a knob

Garage List
Just had mine done (I paid the £500 for the service pack, thankfully), but interestingly - up to the first service was saying 16k miles, whereas when they reset the CBS, it's now only 11k.

cheers Dave - would you mind PM'g me with your dealer price for the 1st service, and I will do the same from the midlands dealers. So far ive only tried Sytner Tamworth.

Thanks again

Hi,

sorry for resurrection i've just got my first Service message on the car and need to get it booked in. Is it just a oil change and a filter?

Do they do any updates to the ECUs, etc and will i need to re-code my car once i've got it?

Where if the garage allows can i get my oil for it from and what type do i need?

Sytner Nottingham let me supply my own oil and so saved £100 on the 1st service.

Thanks, i've just been quoted by Sandals

£300 for a service and they provide oil
or
£174 if i provide oil.

Annoyingly they charge £18 to insure the curiosity car though which i thought was pretty cheeky.

Does anyone know what oil i need exactly as i need 6.5L

Could you not take it to an independent for a service?

Give JCT and Stratstone a call and see if they are any cheaper. Doubt it, but at least you will know you aren’t getting totally fleeced.

There are some independents that do servicing without affecting warranty.

e.g.
http://www.dmworx.co.uk/

Oil and oil filter.
Cabin filter but this isn't strictly compulsory.

£290 from Rybrook (440i) - including courtesy car

Yes, your car will probably be due an update and yes, most of your settings and coding will go back to standard.

Keep an eye on your service countdown after you've had the service done as sometimes the car doesn't like it. I've done about 500 miles since my service but the mileage counter has dropped 6000 miles. Not uncommon.

Yes. But when you get to 4 years old and out of warranty and something does go wrong (because hey, you're trying to save money in the first place, so aren't going to take out the extended warranty and pay £500 a year), you can forget about any 'goodwill' contribution from BMW.

If your not doing big miles its actually not that expensive when you consider its every 2 years and something like our Qashqai needs servicing every year at £199 if using main dealers.

I've just had the first service on my 440i, online quotes from my local dealers were showing £343 although when I got there they were going to charge me £290. I took out the new 3 service pack which also includes 2 map updates & an mot next year, cost was £900 which seems a lot until you get a quote for the second service which was coming in at £600+ I paid a £300 deposit & then have 24 monthly payments of £25.

Thanks I managed to get it booked in for £250 including oil which is £1 cheaper than I could get the oil for myself and the labour of £174 they'd charge me for labour.

Pretty happy with it and asked for an X3 car if they have one so the Mrs can try it out so we can look at X3 m40i hehe!

Interestingly I've just had my first service at nearly 20k miles on the service pack. Was pissed off that I'd only see one service from the pack. However, after less than 500 miles it has dropped the advised miles to next service to 9000 miles!!! What the f...
