Quick off throttle..steptronic question...

So this is the highest reving fastest auto tranny car I have ever driven (nowhere near the fastest, but certainly the fastest auto). So I have a question that maybe some of you technically proficient enthusiasts can answer for me.

Will it hurt the engine to come off the throttle fast when at or near redline? I find that I am comfortable in my suburia world toget to the top of 3rd gear and then I let off.. in a manual, you can step on the clutch and let the car come down without engine braking before changing gear, but in the auto when you come off the loud pedal fast it starts some serious high rev engine braking.. I know these cars are meant to handle redlining, but what about coming off the throttle at those rpms, or even while at full boost in general?

Just to be clear, I am asking because I did the search and couldn't find much on it except for threads on breakin of the engine. I am at 9300 miles and I bought it CPO so I thought I would ask.

I see no problem there. Just dont care about the engine, No way U can hurt it that way.
Regarding the engine break action - well yes, usually if U lift off at high rpm, U want to switch gears (on manual transmission) or start to break (on both manual and auto). So dont U be scared about the engine break, it's OK. Using engine break is within the best practices of driving, get used to it and dont worry.

If the engine breaks like that it should be replaced free of charge lol. Seriously though, they make it practically impossible to harm the engine with all the tech in the Step.

Cool, thanks guys. I know it sounded like a silly question, but I am used to Small Block Ford engines with MT (last one was 600HP) so I thought I would ask. I owned an 80's 325e which was a bulletproof slug, but it was a manual, so I just have not had a chance to really stretch this cars legs yet. I had to spend months learning about air cooled engines with my porsche speedster.. its one of the best parts of being a car guy for me.
