Finally bought it

So I finally bought the car. It’s now at my mechanic’s place and they will start to work on it next week.
53K km
2009, registered in 2010
Two owners, first owner had the car for 13 years with full service record from BMW. Last owner selling to get a Cayman.

The following will be done

1. Refurbish 4 rims
2 four new tires Pilot Sport S
3 new brake discs and pads
4 rod bearings ( not needed yet but doing it anyways
5 engine mounts
6 complete fluid flush.
7 oil pan gasket
8 brake vacuum pipes
9 spark plugs
10 throttle body gasket
11 cam cover gaskets L/R
12 body dent / paint repair driver side door
13 intake engine head clean ( dry ice ) incl. throttle body.

Anything else I should look at ?

I’m considering Apple CarPlay
Air intake or BMC filter drop in
X-pipe ( suggestions ? )
My mechin has a supercharger for sale but I’ll enjoy the car oem first before I jump the gun on that ;-)

Congrats. I'd skip the wheel recondition and get a set of M359s.

It’s cheap to get done. Like 75$ per rim. So I’ll definitely get that done. I’ll check the other rims you suggested.

Congrats! It’s never too soon to replace RBs. I did both of mine with BE V1 RB and BE/ARP 2000 rod bolts at 20k miles and 25k miles.

What’s the difference in the rod bearings. My mechanic a BMW tuner here probably one of the best in Shanghai states that the improved OEM are equally good as BE and others. He is only using the improved OEM on his customers cars including his own super charged E9x

BE and MAHLE RBs use superior bearing materials and coatings. They also have an increased clearance compared to OEM bearings which is one of the issues that have resulted in many s65 engine failures from 5k miles to 125k+ miles. Here are links to BE and MAHLE bearings descriptions. Also, search for BE bearings wiki if you want more info on BE and the differences between V1 and V2 RBs.

The updated oem bearings are not necessarily improved. Europe banned the use of lead in automotive parts so the original oem bearings with lead had to be redesigned without lead. The same dimensions and clearances are likely identical between the two oem bearings.

There are a number of different RBs to shoose from (OEM, ACL, VAC, Mahle, BE), all are happily used in numerous S65 engines. There are also a TON of information for the curious to read (check sub forum Engines & transmissions etc) - happy reading!

Most of us have been under the impression that the OE shells are tighter than they recently turned out to be (still tigher than 3rd party "extended" shells but nothing near claimed dimensions).
I'd have some more discussions on the subject with your mechanic, listen to his reasoning and experience (if any from 3rd party vendors) and go from there. You're on 53k km, take your time and get a good solution.

Good luck!

Thanks buddy. Yes he also uses oem on his own car. He checked with a buddy that does high powered tunes that guy also said use oem. But we are checking for Mahle now. BE is available also. Just need to double check the pricing. Problem is in China you gotta be damn careful. There is so much counterfeit in the market so I will only rely on my mechanic. I can buy online and ship here but I’ll get hit by 200% import duty on car parts so that’s a no go

I’d get a bottle of some kind of rubber seal conditioner to clean and treat all the seals for the convertible top
And maybe stainless brake lines

Twice because I currently own an ‘09 (took delivery in May ‘09, my car) and a ‘12 (took delivery in Dec 2011, wife’s car) e92 M3s and the bearings have been replaced in both cars.

Congrats! good job on getting all the maintenance done first.

You probably wont get much out of an intake vs the drop in filter. I did install an AFE intake just for the noises, no power gains.

Thanks man.
I found a used Karbonius plenum and intake which I just bought. I really just want it for the sound.
This M3 isn’t exactly super fast anyways. It’s just fun to drive. My X5 is faster 😜😜
