Sunroof opens by itself when it feels like it

My sunroof switch is faulty. It opens if you just breath on the switch. I have to wiggle it back and forth to get it to stop opening. My question is can I open the entire overhead component that houses the switch and clean the contacts? Or do I have to buy a whole new unit?

Sunroof opening during a car wash is so cool.

Maybe your car is claustrophobic? I know there was a way to initialize the sunroof. Try this:

Press and hold the sunroof in the "lift" position
the roof will go up, keep holding for about 15sec and then the roof will move another half inch or so up

Keep holding the switch in the lift position, the roof will then close, then slide open all the way, and then close again

The process is then complete

Do not release the button untill the process is completely finished, else you would have to start over again.

Right on. It seems like you are holding the button up forever before it starts, but then it will move/calibrate after about 15 seconds. The whole process takes about 45 seconds.

Thanks for that tip unfortunately that did not resolve it. Still great info. The contacts in the switch are definitely bad. Can I pry that hardware apart?

I'd advise against it brother, although I imagine anything is possible. Are you out of warranty?

I'd give it a shot - take it apart to see if you can fix it. If not, just buy a new one. Probably relatively easy to swap out.
