Now, if you are referring to the M4, then it's a whole different story, the M4 will be first, M5 second, and yes, the M3 ... last. Last edited by bm323; 10-23-2013 at 02:10 AM.. |

Seriously, do you go regularly on the weekends? Once or twice a month? A three minute track is pretty long around here. I even said, local tracks where there are short straights short braking zones and very twisty turns. If there are long straights and big sweeper turns an M5 BETTER be faster with an extra 200 hp. Oh and its a new model vs one thats how many years old? I dont think ive ever been to a laptime site because it absolutely means nothing. I dont think i ever will neither. You think an m5 will beat an m3 on a track where the fastest cars are s2000s?! |

Seriously, I don't know if M5 owners just have a belief that their cars are superior in EVERY single way just because of where it is placed in the lineup and the price tag (maybe its because the way M6 owners treat them ). Us M3 owners must be at the bottom of the food chain. But seriously, bm323 do you even go to the track at all? You have 450 posts total (with about 15 in this thread) and are just citing websites all over the place! I'm curious whether the story would be completely different if these were average laptimes over a 30 minute session. Is the M5 just a couple fast laps and then limp mode? So a newer model F10 with a 200hp advantage is still only a couple seconds faster than a discontinued m3 that has been around for how many years in your laptime citings? That already says something there if you don't notice the details besides the actual numbers. Do you really think 4500lbs is going to be quicker than an m3 on your average local track with just turn after turn? You would just be powersliding through every turn for fun or just get bored lugging around all that damn weight and waiting for a long straight to finally unleash the beast while watching s2000s and miatas pass you lap after lap. A 1m coupe would do even better. I think you need to get some hpde experience before you judge. Lastly, there are many threads in here where BMW owners have been invited or gone to an event where they had a chance to drive all the different models, whether its a BMW event or the M school. Good honest reviews, not some laptime from the intardnet. |

Can't help you here ... point is not which has more hp or newer ... As much as you believe in my post that I track faster in the M5, I believe that you can track a M5 probably grimacing over the F80 F82 having more hp, and newer

If you meant my current car vs the new m3 - not really. When my current car has suspension upgrades, bbk, seats with cage and gutted, guaranteed its going to be a whole lot of fun at the track esp with the na v8. But yes i would still want an m4 for dd and occasional track day just for fun. My motto if you dont understand by now is that the m3 series is a much more precise and sporty car than the big executive saloon m5. |

Have to admit though that there is nothing more glorious than the noises this thing makes. Just so damn fun. Just like my s'2k did with its high revving and how all the high revving na cars sound. Gt3, ferraris, etc. cant be that engine noise. |

My dad has a '13 SL550 (V8 Bi-turbo, 429hp, 516lb/ft).
I drove both back to back. The new gen SL is lighter and still has a ton of torque and hp, so I assume it is still faster than the old SL600 V12... could be totally wrong here tho The car is fast and has tons of torque, but the gear box is sluggish and the car feels lazy. It's a GT cruiser. The M3 is faster and more responsive in every way! I've never driven an SL63 AMG or the SL65 V12 AMG... I can assume those might be faster in a straight line... but the car is still a boat around corners (Also, I haven't read through all 5 pages... just thought I would share my experience).
