When is sometimes? Does it happen in a common situation?
To me it sounds like it's the dsc/dtc system, the exlamation in a triangle (yellow) flashes when it's "in action" or intervening and it's stays on permanently when you turn it off. |

I think this means that there has been a warning message that was displayed before. To see what the message is, you can press the BC button on the signal lever. If you have iDrive, the message should be at the bottom of the display. It could be anything from low gas, to low washer fluid, etc. If the issue is serious enough it will stay up in the center of the consol display. For example, when you're first warned of low fuel, you get the big warning icon and audible notification, then you get the small triangle. This behavior repeats periodically and when you are low enough on gas the big icon will be there constantly.

that triangle shows up for many different things. it could be no seat belt, dtc, exceeding speed limit, open door(s)/trunk, and a whole bunch of other stuff, it should give u an indication of what to check tho

It can indicate low fuel, (you need to get gas). I had this happen to me when fuel was low. Use your trip computer to navigate to "Check Control" and then push the button on the end of the stalk and see if there are any messages though. If there are no warning messages, you should be OK, and it was probably just in need of gasoline

Sometimes, when I start my car, I get this warning triangle, accompanied by a little ding ding ding sound, but by the time I look down, the warning has gone, and it never re-appears. Only does this occasionally....by the way, the car is only 1.5 week old. This has happened about 3 times so far, and only on start-up..

Unfortunately not, the temperature is 7-8 degrees Celcius here at the moment. Next time, I will try and see what it is telling me...cant be anything major, or it would keep telling me...lol

it could even be something like low windshield washer fluid. It gives you the symbol once on your instrument cluster and then clears and from then on just give you that little yellow triangle on the bottom. I have the i drive and there is a constant text reminder on the bottom of the nav screen telling you what the warning is about, like low fuel, low washer fluid, etc.

if the ! is still there then stop the car, leave the engine running, move the scroll button on the indicator stalk until check control appears in the display, then press the button on the indicator stalk - the screen will then either say check ok or clarify what the problem is with another icon, usually windscreen washer bottle low or temp low or fuel low. All of these need to be cleared but they will come back next time you restart - low fuel cannot be cleared unless you fill up.
You may be able to do check control while still moving but that can't be safe, messing around with the display when you need to be looking where you are going. If you get another icon then the problem might be more serious , you need to look it up in the book. I know its been warmer the last few days but I've had the low outside temperature warning a few times this week. If check control says OK then whatever the problem was its gone away for a bit. Low washer fluid can do that. Probably the same for some other warnings. UK spec cars do not have seatbelt chimes. This check control system is not great but its OK. My Jag has a message centre that tells you what the problem is in English - it will say "Low washer fluid" or "rear passenger side door open" you can cancel the warnings with the cancel button the serious errors won't go away and you get a red light on the dash to remind you that you are ignoring something serious - it doesn't look as new fangled as the E90 but it works better. It has an option to do this in about 14 languages so there's no excuse BMW - put the check control into something easier to understand. Similarly with the Icons for all the settings, having to differentiate between the icon for "drive away locking on and "drive away locking on and auto locking on" is impossible without reference to the manual. I guess the system assumes Idrive is installed (which the equivalent is touch screen on the jag) The BMW drives better but it does surprise me how ford have managed to sort out some of the electronics gadgets in the Jag better than BMW managed. |

The problem is that the chimes and warning symbol are gone so fast I never see what it is...when I did a syatem check (no iDrive) it reports no fault codes or warnings...maybe it is something simple like seatbelt or door open, but I have tried to re-create these circumstances with no success....I will try and catch it one day...lol

Not likely to be a check control chime then a check control will always record the reason. other chimes are supposedly -
keys in dash but door open (never been able to get this one myself). engine running and door open lights on and door open lights on and keys removed In fact I need to do some testing with my car because although I know the manual refers to these errors I have never seen them. The manual also refers to door open and engine in gear but I find that I can drive off with the door open if I so wish. a minor issue but sometimes a rear door can be opened and left slightly ajar (passengers don't seem to want to close the doors hard enough on first try - second try they will slam it shaking the whole car). |

Yes. Ice does appear to clear without being recorded by check control. Will confirm this next time I get up early for work and its still cold enough to activate. Probably be the Autumn now (wishful thinking) before temperatures drop.

I tried many variables this evening, and nothing made it beep at me...I will just have to wait until it decides to do it again, and hope I can see what it is telling me next time.
