I just don't get...
Longer range would be nice when you've lost your car in a parking lot and are trying to make it chirp/flash the lights.

Or you could just remember where you parked?

Well now, clearly that would always the intention. I would not walk into a mall/airport/whatever and say to myself "Okay, and lets just drop that piece of information from my memory permanently, just to keep things interesting."

But sometimes when in a hurry I don't always remember to check for a landmark (or whatever your favourite trick is) near the car, and then you come out to several dozen rows of cars that look pretty fucking similar.

That said, I've never permanently lost a car because my key fob range was shorter than average... but it certainly speeds up the searching process, y'know?

My key fob sometimes doesn't even work from 2 feet away. It's the stupidest shinola I have ever had. Opening up with confort access works great, but to get it to lock with the top of the door handle or having to actually pull out the fob and press the button right at the door and it doesn't work, is truely aggravating.

Before you start with the battery thing -- I have changed it out several times and have never had issues with start-up in my pocket. Just one of those stupid things I guess.

And on the fact of using your head. I think the BMW fob sucks at that. I have had many key fobs and made bets with people on the range of any key fob by using my chin to extend the range. But I will never bet on a BMW key fob...

The issue exists on my '11 335i. The range is absolutely dicked. I've been contemplating disassembling the fob and seeing what can be done with the antenna circuitry, but that's a $300+ gamble if I screw it up.

That hat is priceless.

My fob range is about like everyone's, but then I have trouble getting the trunk opener to work if I'm not in the sweet spot. Anyone else have this problem?

I was sincerely hoping the battery in my fob was going dead. I guess short range is just the norm. :[

Not so much my wallet but putting in my pocket is the way to go because the range is horrendo. I also find opening the trunk through comfort access is way too choppy. Should be easier/more consistent.

Hi all, I would like to share my experience with a very short key fob range in my E93 SLI with CA option.
When I bought my car everything was working properly, I was able to open and close my car from very far but recently my range start reducing to the point that I had to keep my key fob next to the window or I would be getting no key message while trying to start the engine if key would be not in the pocket on the side of reverse mirror (in my e93 FZV module is located inside the reverse mirror and CA sensor is also in the middle of the car, in the ash tray area). I would also have a problem to open the door with my Comfort Access and it would work very intermittently despite it being independent from remote locking system.
I have read all forums I could find and I noticed that this is a very common problem amongst BMW owners. Most of the people would indicate FZV module as a culprit of the problem. I do repair electronics for leaving so I decided to remove and strip down my reverse mirror and inspect FZV module hoping I would be able to identify the issue, unfortunately under closer inspection I was not able to see any problem with this little PCB.
In the mean time I had to go pick up my son from school so I decided to go without the mirror as it wasn't assembled back together yet. This caused my Footwell module (FRM module) to reset so I had to set again my time format, disable automatic door locking, set the audio tone setting etc.
After coming back home and fitting reverse mirror back in place my CA and key fob is working properly again. The range is big enough that I can fold my roof down from the remote before I approach my car, also no more issues with a CA door opening or starting the engine.
I am not 100% sure was FRM module reset the solution for my problem but I hope that my experience will also help someone else to fix this very enjoying issue.
