M2 Competition - Roundel Magazine, July 2018

Two interesting takeaways from this article. First there was some more information regarding the revised rear suspension. There was also mention of the new 788M black wheels having a "black front surface" as first pointed out by steve457 here. There's been much debate in this thread whether the "black" wheels are completely black including the wheel face or not.

Page 68
Quote:
To assure extremely precise wheel location, tight-tolerance ball joints are used to transmit transverse forces, and the control arms and wheel carriers of the new five-link rear axle are forged aluminum. A racing derived ridged connection, dispensing with rubber bushings, is used to fix the lightweight steel grid-type rear-axel subframe to the body; this controls wheel location and improves tracking stability.
Page 69
Quote:
New nineteen-inch forged wheels in a Y-spoke design are standard, in either a light high-sheen bi-color or with a black front surface.

NOTE: 0-60 mph time is a misprint, the 4.2s time is 0-100 kph.

Does this mean I can't buy aftermarket suspension for the M2, and instead have to wait until a kit is released specifically for the M2C?

No. Mperf coilovers are same part number for both M2's.

Would my Ohlins from my current M2 fit as well? I would assume so

Yeah, I am not putting too much stock in the article considering they refer to it as the "M5 Competition"

what i gleaned from that is that the new suspension links.. (control arms and wheel carriers.. ) are forged...

Yes, I noticed that reading the actual magazine when it arrived. It's a misprint (or an enormously awkward and out of context reference that missed being edited), and unfortunately those are somewhat common in the Roundel it seems.

Huh? Its got a 'competition' badge on the back just like the M2C. It wasnt clear to me in the article, so I dont know if, for 2019, its going the same route as the M2 being offered as the only M5, or if its being offered as a pkg. What's of no question, of course, is what a beast either is. I saw sub 3 sec 0-60 quotes!

I have a copy. Read the M2 article. They literally call it the M5 Competition in the last sentence. Maybe take a read next time before assuming the other person is wrong?

Did you not read the article? They are discussing the M2 Competition features near the end and refer to it as the M5 Competition.

I read it.. I just read that section differently; I thought that they were simply stating a comparison of features that are 'also standard on the M5 Competition.'. Since both models were being reviewed, with the M5 Competition being the titular model, I dont think that interpretation is totally out of line.

Well they did list the 245/265 tires and the bi color wheels which are surely referring to the M2C. However given the way the article switched between the two cars it is a bit ambiguous if you didn't know the specs.
