Doesn't bother me. Barely notice it unless I'm really trying to focus on it. In fact, forget deleting it, I'd like a volume control to turn it up. It'll make that HK option useful as I've barely listened to any music since I got the it.

Without ASD, highway cruising is now so much more quiet and serene .

My point is that I find that ASD creates a sort of annoying background rumble. I could not really put my finger on it until I pulled the plug on it.
I have an MPE on my car, so the loud S55 I6 growl and wail are present at will . But I do like it quiet in some circumstances .

Pulled the plug last night.....must say, I miss the sound. I'll probably connect it back this weekend.
I wish i had done this without reading others comments on it. I think there was some placebo in me thinking that the sound is a lot quieter than what it really is. I'll have it coded out when i get an exhaust. |

Looks like MY16 has different ASD-configuration; there is an option "Construction stage: later or equal 07/15" in my MY16. So SW and HW are different compared to MY15?
Another observation; my MY16 also have "Competition Paket=No" under 3000 ASD-configuration. I guess Competition package will have different ASD configuration? |

Competition sport muffler is different BMW item code, so I guess there should be some HW difference beside the black tips. But the price for normal 18307851179 and competition muffler 18307854736 is the same?
So, I've tried this Competition package Yes/No SW option today. I might say that with this option enabled there was some noise change. I had an impression that there is more sound from behind compared to "normal" ASD. And it sounded clearer too, less drone to my feet, little more raspier than normal. I might be completely wrong because I was testing this only for 10 minutes and the exhaust flaps might not be opened yet with normal ASD. Both were tested in Sport/Manual. Anybody else tried this SW option yet? Last edited by Guleb; 03-09-2016 at 05:21 AM.. |

I coded out the ASD, but honestly, after a few weeks, I coded it back on.
It's really a matter of preference. IMHO it didn't feel like an M3 since it sounded more like a 335 inside the quiet cabin.

Has anyone ever tried the Active Sound cancelling cable that you can buy for like $70?
I just bought one off a friend of mine who sold his M3. |

You're not talking about the BMS can flap module are you? Which costs 4 times more that $70. Or some other device? I would just code it out, must easier and cheaper.

Coded mine off. I thought I would turn it back on but so far I love it. While I do miss a little bit of the noise inside the cabin, as others have said the exhaust gives plenty of feedback still when you get on it. Also, I found the ASD sound to be so "fake" sounding if that makes sense. I mean I know it's fake but it sounded bad....like a aftermarket Honda exhaust or something. Now the car sounds right. I don't think I'll go back.

I need to test this out because I'm having popping noises when listening to the Satellite Radio, and some people have reported that disabling the Active Sound gets rid of this problem. |

Check out http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1228462 for how to pull the plug. There is also the self coding route if you have that setup. |

I'll second what Firedown said. A sticky with four pages and still no one has said if a US dealer can code out the ASD. Has anyone had a US dealer code it out? If so, any charge for doing it? I know it can be unplugged or aftermarket coded out.
