Hi folks,

Not sure if this was part od the one of existing threads, i coulnd't find ti.

I've wrote in the "wheels" thread about transfer case issue.

I've put 230,000 km on my 335i xdrive (~320,000 km on the car now), I have staggered summer tires and I just put my 3rd set of new tires on them. I have square setup in winter (2nd set).

My t-case failed at around 300,000 km, in my case it started as a rubbing sound (I thought maybe a stick was sometimes rubbing a tire) and eventually started to make a metallic clink. After replacement with a used t-case, I've already put ~20,000 km on it with no issues.

I can't say I experienced jerkiness, though recently replacing my boost solenoid fixed a bit of a surging feel (like a sine-wave) as boost fluctuated.

When I let of the clutch is 1st gear / reverse / or change from 3rd to 2nd I feel a knock under the front seats.

I've had a look and the driveshaft has some rubbing marks on it.

Anyone have any idea what it could be? Guibo looks OK, haven't checked centre bearing for play yet. Worthwhile checking Tcase oil? Praying its not the Tcase

^ It could be the rear transfer case / transmission mount bushing. That's really all there is that suspends the transmission. It's one bolt going through that one bushing in the rear on the one side and that's it. If that goes bad it can clunk around. Take a look at that bushing and see if it's torn. I replaced mine around 50K miles and it did have some slight tears to it. If both of those sections are completely torn it probably would clunk.

I'm having a similar problem at the moment, on Friday I had just had two tyres changed (fronts - Conti Sportcontact SSR XL) and the car suddenly developed this muffled clunk when under any moderate power... No dash lights or anything.

F36 30d auto x-drive (70,000 miles)

Upon further driving it feels like this:
- Pulsing, clunking when using any moderate power, being really gentle can help.
- Low speeds are worse, between 5-10mph at @1000rpm it's constant and feels a little like ABS does in the snow. The more power you use, the more dramatic the clunk/pulse.
- High speeds are ok, but putting power down for an overtake brings the noise and sensation to the fore.
- Cold start: you can nurse the car without any clunks or slips, but once its up to temperature it's almost impossible to avoid at low speeds
- Sport/sport+ makes it almost impossible to avoid the clunk, eco makes it less prevalent.
- Doesn't happen when coasting or up to speed with a steady foot.
- At very low speeds the resistance when letting off the acceleator causes a noticable clunk.

Anyone have any idea where to start looking and what to look for? Hoping it's not the TC, havent been under the car yet.
Thinking about taking it to a specialist if it's 'involved' but unsure of who is trustworthy (east london) and want to have a bit of a handle on it myself first...

It is probably your tyres if it started happening after you put two new tyres on. You will probably have to replace the other 2.
