I could never do that to my car. I would either order the car with a moonroof or drop any hobbies that would require I need a roof rack. Or just buy last generations Caddy CTS-V wagon. lol

What a beautiful piece of carbon fiber, but do not have an accident with it because it will be expensive to repair or replace!!

Now all I need is a way to attach a Class 3 tow hitch to my M4!
...just kidding! This is a nice piece of documentation for those who need/want it. Thank you! Nice Job!

Looks great! Every car should have a roof rack option.

If an independent shop was willing to do this I might go for it
Depends how much it would cost to replace the CF if it got all f'ed up... |

Just did it used a 5/8" forstner bit and came out perfectly as long as you get the position correctly. My drill position was off for one of the mounting points so I attached a 1/4" straight router bit to my cordless drill and went at it to shave a little off the side of the hole to expose the entire plug. For sealant I used permatex ultra black on the bolt threads, between bolt and frame, as well as around the hole I cut after securing the bolt.

I'm using Thule Aeroblade 43" that came off my e92 M3. Bought the Thule 3028 Podium foot kit to use with the M4. Thule Airscreen wind deflector is 38" version.
Adding on to Maltman's awesome DIY, a T30 torx head is needed to remove the existing plug. Then a 11mm socket is needed to install the new mounting bolts. Apologies for the bad pictures and dirty car. |
