First time M Buyer - European Delivery

Hey guys,
I am relatively new to the forums. I have several questions regarding the European Delivery and the process of it. First of all, are the European delivery suggested retail prices negotiable? I am planning on ordering an F80 M3 in AW/MW very soon and I am not sure if it is just easier to order it directly through the dealership or through an ED. Secondly, can someone else pick up the car for the person who is purchasing it. Are there any tariffs/taxes I must pay after I drop it off for shipping to the U.S.? Thanks a bunch guys. Any input is greatly appreciated.

You order ED through your dealer just as if you ordered it the regular way through the dealer.

You generally save about 7% by going ED.

All the fees and shipping are built into the price.

The price is negotiable.

I dont know if you are allowed to have someone else pick up the car for you. I doubt it because there is a bunch of paperwork you have to sign.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! I really appreciate it. Do you know any reputable dealers in the LA region that I should order ED through? I have heard of stories where dealers still try to rip you off.

You can definitely have someone else pick up the car for you, but you need to let your ED associate know ahead of time so you can get the proper paperwork filled out.

Go with Golffrr and Steve Thomas BMW.. They are probably the forum favorite and can work magic with your order.

Thank you for the kind words! David Aviles is the ED King, Just a heads up David is actually in Germany now but should be back in about a week(he is meeting up with 6 customers who are all taking delivery on the same day, how cool is that!). In the meantime you can still submit request in the link below and David and the other team members will see the request. Also you can PM me anytime till 7pm for any status updates on emails.

I am not exactly sure how we stand with allocations and our wait list, That will be a David question

The buyer is required to show up in person at the Welt for any ED order. No exceptions

Hi all! I just placed my order for the M3 today and the dealer asked me for three of my preferred ED dates. It looks like the earliest dates are the last few days of October. I have no idea as to what's supposed to happen next. Do I just wait for my dealer to come back with a confirmed delivery date and then book my plane ticket?

Sorry I'm a total noob when it comes to ED. This will be my first ED. Thank you!

By the way, does anyone know if the front plates are drilled when you pick up the car in Munich? If so, is it possible to request them not to? Thanks!

They are not. The euro plate is stuck on with tape, essentially. The car comes to your dealer undrilled.

They aren't drilled - the plates are held by adhesive tape which is removed when the car is delivered to the US. I am working with my dealer to make sure they don't drill the holes when the car is delivered here.

Ahh hopefully the dealer doesn't drill mine... Can you essentially just rip off the front plate when you drop it off at the port and keep it?

no, it has to remain on the car for US Customs. Keep fingers crossed that it doesn't "fall off" in transit. I know someone above said you "get to keep one" but if both make the transit, you'll get both. My CA said they've not had any go missing, knock on wood. You will take other stuff out of the car tho; they'll coach you on those items when you do pickup.

Also, if you don't want them to drill the front plate, tell them now and they will write it on your order package that they keep on-hand. I probably got the CA to reply to me at least 2 or 3 times on that point, eventually probably fed up with me being paranoid about it

congrats! it's a worthwhile experience.

Yeah, just hang tight for them to confirm the date. It was within days for mine, so you should be good to go fairly quickly. Then you wait.
