who cares what they call it? If I like the car they can call it Tinkerbell for all I care. Nothing a hair dryer and some dental floss wont take care of.

I'm guessing they'll just put an ///M on the back of it and call it an M Coupe.. Z4M Coupe no longer exists.. we'll see!!

resale will depend on demand.... if this car is the second coming of the E30 M3... then prices in resale will be fine and hold it's value well. I have never heard of people making money on an item that depreciates up to %30 in the first two years. I saw some less than up and up Dodge dealers in the PNW marking up SRT 8 Chargers with the Super Bee package %60 over retail in 2006... based solely on "perceived collectability" and from watching too much car auction action on TV. You can get one now for 1/2 of sticker. Just an example... it f you drive the car and it doesn't blow up your skirt, there are plenty of other options!

if performance and resale was my main concern, I would buy a corvette. It will out perform the hell out of the M1 or whatever they call it and will always be highly sought after. I can't imagine the resale on this car being anything special. There isn't going to be alot of people looking to spend 35-40k on a pre owned 1 series with or without an M badge.

Wow, seriously? As long as it performs, who cares what it is called. Assuming it performs, it will be sought after, which should keep a higher resale value as well. There's no need to be a badge snob.

it's going to be cool no doubt... but with that said, I can never imagine getting it if it is in the 50k + range.. This is why the M3 doesnt appeal to me, not enough bang for the buck... alot of cars that offer a lot more in the same pricerange.

Its because I want an M, a true M and I cant afford an M3. BMW themselves quote an ambition to make M available to 40 not 60 year olds. They have it in their power.

I'm of the opinion that if you can afford a base 1M you can afford a base m3 sedan. $6,000 dollars will separate them at max. I'm just going off of my own values. A $6,000 difference is not large when you're talking about 50grand. If it is, I shouldn't be shopping in this arena.

The M1 (lets go with that for the time being) I expect cost around £38k I dont care what anyone says thats already a whole hill of money. An M3 in the UK costs upwards of £55k. That has now moved into frightening bordering on taking the piss kind of cash.
For M1 money I could have a very high 3 but a 1 is not a 3 so it should cost less. BMW have a rare and interesting opportunity here. They should step up and offer real value whilst enticing people into the fold. I am a long time BMW fan I dont need persuading. I dont need charity to get in to an M but an M1 with its delightful cheeky size and the right kind of power and kit could be a truly great car. |

The rumor is it will be an M Car. And won't be called an M1. (From a source inside BMW). There already was an M1, and it already was an M Car. The first M car. Wonder why they used the number 1?
