Really?
Never heard a "normal" vehicle's brakes squeek? Its common phenomena for any slip resistant material on a metallic surface. The reason it happens so often on replacments is due to dirt and crud affecting the seating of the pads on the brake surface.

My former Audi S4 did as well. My dad's S8 did until Audi threw some Porsche brakes on it. You are right - it is the pads. Problem with the X5M is not many pad choices are available...

All BMW M cars make excessive brake noise.
After multiple visits to the dealer for X6M, M5 and M4, I have given up.
My 991.1 makes noticeably less noise.
So if you want less brake noise get the cayenne tts or macan turbo.
I would rather live with the noise in my X6M than get the Porsche SUV.

so a little update on the ceramics. the noise is still WAY better than before..id say 90% better and since my wife drives the x5m so much, she may not stop hard enough all the time which could cause a little of the slight squeak at times. dust wise, I'm slightly surprised that the front still dusts some...granted we have gloss black wheels. id say the dust is down 60% or so, so still a big improvement. the centric ceramics on my f80 though definitely dust less still. overall, I'm glad we swapped to these although if centric would come out with a pad, I assume it will be just as good for slightly better price.
