Kaixen Hid Kit
Just purchased and installed Kaixen Hid Kit(6000k) in my 06 325i today. Frustrated bcause #1, think they're too bright, number 2, i am receiving error codes. Can anyone tell me what are my options? I am ready to get rid of them and lose the $400 i spent.

That sucks. I just got an HID Fog light kit from Sonic Tuning for $100. Which they say doesn't have any errors. Can let you know how it works if you want to try a different company. Should have the lights in a few days.

Not sure if you have projectors? new to car scene?
Well, judging by how you bought HID kits and didn't mention anything about them being for your fogs i'm assuming its your headlights. You can either return the kit you have (if thats possible, especially if its for $400) and either get a cheaper generic one or buy one that has the canbus ballast. (google search/search thread if still lost). If you decide to keep your HID kit or buy a cheaper generic one then you need to solder on some capaciters and your error code should go away. good luck with everything |

Another option would be to buy a cheaper kit, like DDM's along with cancellers and then also get your car coded to disable any bulb checks and warnings.

Good point cb1111. j/k I thought he might have projectors already. He definitely should get some and no put HIDs in halogen housings.

I bet the $400 was for the HIDs and installation at a shop.

Your right. Installation and purchase was $400. New problem. Condensation in my driver side light housing. Im gonna keep the lights(got used to them). I guess i have to put up with error code, but the condensation is pissing me off! BTW what are capaciters?

HID and LED bulbs don't put as much of a load on an electrical system as typical halogen bulbs, so any electrical systems with computer monitoring will think that the bulbs are burnt out. Capacitors put the load on the line to "fool" the computer monitors to think that the bulb is good because it's drawing as many amps as a typical halogen bulb.

2 options:
a - go to BMW and get your car coded for Xenon (will get rid of the codes and is best option but pricier) b - get warning cancellers and they will cancel out the codes (warning cancellers are really cheap) also, i would take the car back to the shop whenever u have time, i mean...hopefully they gave you a warranty with the installation. they should take out the condensation and put everything back together so that there will be no future condensation. condensation and lighting is a bad mix! HIDs so much brighter than the halogens, in a good way....u see everything on the road. your eyes aren't probably used to it yet, which might cause you to think they are too bright. hop in a car with no HIDs then go back to your car, u'll feel better about having HIDs. just my 2 cents (cuz i have a motorcycle with no HIDs and i can't see a thing!!! LOL) cheer up man! Last edited by jose_sonictuning; 04-01-2011 at 01:36 PM.. |

I'm in CT too, cant wait to be blinded.
most 2006 models can not user aftermarket HID kits anyways because of the CANBUS system the car uses. i've tried HID Fog lights and they dont work. You will most likely need to go back to stock with your lighting setup

Highperformancebulbs.com has been doing really well with 2006-2007 pre lci with a marginal amount of failures actually.
They use a very expensive canbus HID system. Not one of those cheap ebay ballast type deals. You guys should look into them. Direct link is actually on my site. |

If you ever feel like doing it properly there are several sponsors that sell aftermarket headlights WITH projectors. You can also buy used OEM ones and have the car recoded. I did this on my last BMW, but be prepared to pay the price..... |

The shop is stating that i have to get rid of the condensation myself before they can re-seal. Is this valid? Btw, Im in Southern CT

I've read horror stories like these on these forums far too many times lately. Bottom line is, and take it from someone who has been where you are, when in doubt, LET A PRO HANDLE IT. There are just too many shops/ great installers out there to DIY with BMW headlamps unless you are 150% sure of what you're doing. These cars have sophisticated lighting systems, and a whole new set of headlights can easily put you 2k and at most over 5k in the hole. As far as drying up the condensation, try driving at low speeds with the hood just popped and the tops of the headlamps (the black plastic pieces where the halogens can be accessed, simply pop them off with a flathead toward the front). Let me guess, this was a conversion of your core stock set. Good luck.
