Regarding the overall dynamics of the 335 EDCs, I don't entirely agree... in my experience, the comfort mode is definitely too floaty, but the Sport mode is actually pretty good. It's still a little too soft on public roads where all the road irregularities, mid-corner bumps and off-camber turns provide significant challenges for the suspension, but on the track (in the absence of these challenges), it felt very good to me... still a little soft to control body movement quite as much as I'd like, but well-balanced and very capable at keeping all 4 wheels firmly planted and delivering grip. One of the CCA instructors took my car for a couple laps and commented that he thought the suspension was very composed and well-balanced as well.
On a very smooth track, it probably works very well. I don't drive fast on track much in this car, but my favourite back roads are bumpy with ripples in places. I could go faster in Comfort mode.....WTF????

Hmm... I have read occasionally that test drivers post faster or at least equal times in the Comfort setting in various cars... but in my 335, I haven't yet encountered conditions where this would apply for me. Are you on run-flats?

Sounds like any relatively stiff suspension would hop on your back roads.

Not really, I have had a long list of road cars with Sporty suspension (Audi S-Line, Subaru Impreza Sti Prodrive, Nissan Skyline GTR, etc, etc. As long as it is the spring rate that is high, then it can be quite forgiving. When you crank up the dampers to artificially make a softly sprung car, 'firm' then you get skipping and crashing, as it is not the spring taking the load, more the inability of the damper to respond to a bump that causes a hard hit. This is the BMW F30 way

I have a track car with fully adjustable dampers, and I get the same feeling if I dial too much damping into them.

I completely get what you're saying, but I just haven't experienced what you describe... it almost sounds as though your springs are shot (or the wrong springs were installed from the outset?)

I think it might be related to the way I drive and type of roads, and to be fair, I might be expecting too much from it ????

I don't think there is anything wrong with my suspension, I'm on my second F30, plus some journo's have echo'd my views on the 4 series. I am disappointed with it, it makes a fantastic car just a good car.

Same thing happens on my Z4 35 with factory adjustable dampers, especially on the stock 19" RFT. It is better with the stock 18" RFT, almost as if the chassis was signed off with the 18s and the 19s were a ///Marketing after thought

I am not impressed with the BMW adjustable dampers right now, but the non adaptive sport suspension weren't an option on the Z4 so I had no choice

On my wife's F30 I went with the Option 704 non adaptive sport suspension because I think the ride/handling balance is better, and the dampers are not overly stiff (to give a feeling of sportiness to the customer, that is destroyed on the first corner with a bit of a rough patch on exit)

I will spend my money in the aftermarket if I want a more sporty suspension, not the BMW adaptive dampers

My M-Sport suspension is a bit too soft on "comfort mode", however it feels great on Sport.

Also, if you are into racing, you will know that a short shifter is a downgrade -rather than an upgrade. Longer throw = faster shifts.. (10 sec car here)

Unless you have DHP, the settings do not adjust dampening.

Sigh! Those were the days. Back when I had my '93 FD RX-7, my buddies were rocking modded 300ZX's. Good times!

Damn...I'm thinking once I buy a house and install a lift it will be time to stop modding the german luxury sled and get a project car. Will prob go American muscle since that's how we roll in the D. Anyone got any words of wisdom? I'd like to go probably with an older Mustang GT and supercharge it! Loving how tunes + parts will be dirt cheap, and then no half axle shafts to break Just need to keep making the Mcdoubles...
