Engine and gearbox version on 228i F44 2021

Hi guys,

I was strugling to understand what actual marking of my BMW 228i Engine is.

I know that on my F32 430i (2018) Engine marking is B46B20O0.

I'd like to understand what engine marking is on F44 and what are the differences between engines.

Also, I'd like to understand the Gearbox name and characteristics.

I know that there are Aisin and not ZF gearbox, so I'm pretty curious on how much Torque that gearbox can hadle.

Thank you!

I found an article with information about decoding BMW engine codes, with 'shorthand' and 'longhand' codes

I just read that most F-44 228i Gran Coupe use the B48A20

I know that here in the USA, the B46D is used, and was listed in my VIN search.

Yep, it says i got B46D but I still cannot totally understand what are the modification.

In the link you sent above it ssays B46B20O1 across the B46D modification.

Is that right?

Right...B46B20O1
4 cyl, turbocharged, direct injection, Valvetronic, SULEV,
longitudinal position for X-drive, 2.0 liter, 'Ober' or 'Upper' output, update version 1 often referenced as the TU (Technical Update)
From the same article...
  • The C/D crankshaft is 2.3lbs lighter due to the use of lighter materials and different machining.
  • The C/D has a 1-piece timing chain instead of a 2-piece.
  • The C/D engines have an innovative cooling design that separates the cooling supply into two zones: cylinder head and engine block. The cylinder head and turbo receives a constant supply of coolant but cooling to the engine block can be reduced or turned off. During a cold-start, warm-up, or normal driving coolant circulates through the cylinder head and turbo but is cut off from the engine block. Only when needed is the valve to the engine block opened, allowing coolant to circulate through the crankcase. The water pump and thermostat are now part of this Heat Management Module (but available for replacement individually).
  • The B46 is the Super Ultra Low Emissions spec (SULEV) and that is the standard engine in the US market.
