"Only" about 260 was the quickest I saw. You've been there? What'd you get? My guestimation is they are running ~500whp? If my car can just touch 250 in 1.1KM start to stop, Conrod is 1.3KM from Forrests to the start of the Chase - they should be going faster?

Production car regs. So boost is set at a maximum, and monitored, so limitations in what can be done to make more power. Minimum ride height is mandated as well, from memory 100mm clearance from the ground. That really affects top end speed. As an aside, the M2 was pinged for ride height and got booted out of poll position. Whole lot of other regs. So they are not as modified as you might thing. Also, takes a while to wash off top speed

Yeah - a bit quicker than that - my top speed was 270 indicated by GPS. Only hit that on one lap though, and not my fastest - usually b/w 262-265. No aero with my car though, whereas they’ve got big rear wings and front splitters etc.

I’m running a low torque tune in mine - which was limiting boost to about 19-20psi. I vaguely recollect hearing they’re running up to 25psi on their cars.

My best there was a low 29, so obviously most of that time is over the top of the mountain.

Heh - didn’t seem to matter that he started from the back. That car was mighty in the race!

1.79 bar (26psi) for S55 cars in the regs. Exhaust is free. Who knew a lighter, smaller M2 with the same engine would be faster

Light reading for like-minded nerds:

Stg2 BM3 "only" runs up to 21/22 psi. The M3&4 were only running a front splitter, not a wing like the M2. I don't get the perceived lack of speed that they should be doing by The Chase....

The weight difference between M2 and M4 competition is surprisingly pretty small, and the COG of the M4 is lower. The difference in wheelbase has pros and cons either way. All in all, I would expect them to be very similar in times

I think I'd heard a commenter on the broadcast say they had never seen a better build race car when describing the M2...

They obviously got the whole package sorted well, and good driving too They beat a host of big name drivers in the F80/82's.

Yeah - and I run a 20% torque limiter in mine, hence 20ish psi.

Aero aside, only other thing I can think of is stickier tyres - better drive out of the final corner, later braking into the kink. Be interesting to see their sector times to see where the speed difference is.

Yeah - I'm pretty sure they're about the same weight give or take?

If the only difference b/w the two is aero - maybe that's the difference. Over the top of the hill, that's all 150+ corners - the M2's wing + splitter might have helped with balance.

Guess we'll find out next year at 6 hour if the f80/82's have got wings + bigger splitters.
