Thoughts on car wash clubs?

Not expecting a great job.. Not even good. Just acceptable and not to fuck up my car. My car is older now and no longer in a garage. Sadly it is always coated in dust from near by construction work. I know the work will be spray on insta shine. My only concern would be ending up with with a scratched car. I used to go to a car wash club but they never touched the car. I just got the basic machine wash and I went every two days. Was not amazing but at least it kept the car clean enough.

Also, since the delux package comes with hand dry does that mean I have to tip these guys every time I go???

I like the idea, i've never heard of this thing before.

But, for me, i'd rather just hose it down and do a quick wash/dry in 10 minutes, then wax every once in awhile. Especially if you're concerned of scratching. Remember the dirty old Taurus you saw on the highway covered in dirt, and sand? Yeah, that went through the wash before you

In all seriousness, auto washes kind of scare me unless I know the place is taken care of.

Some of these car wash machines are maintained very well. I am less concerned of the machine fucking my car up and more with one of the dryer people messing it up. The only reason I want the deluxe is so they clean my wheels. I can't wash my car without going to a bay I have no access to a hose. The bay brushes are not exactly know to be scratch free. So pick your poison

Go pay someone to do a good/proper exterior detail, if you don't want to do it yourself. Then just follow their instructions for standard upkeep.

I always thought the brushes from the self serve car washes were better overall vs a machine wash. Does anyone know for sure? I just like washing it myself. It's kinda relaxing as long as it's not 110 degrees outside. Stupid AZ.

Problem is, people like self serves for scrubbing mud, engine grease, etc off their cars.

I've seen people scrub the top of their engines, then hang the brush/pole back on the wall.

I see what you mean. I do make it a point to blast the brushwand head with a good shot of soap and rinse before using it and try to knock debris off it. Hopefully that helps a bit.

Just buy microfiber towels and avoid the brushes .

I would highly recommend opti coating your car. Bring it to a professional who will get rid of most of the imperfections in your car, apply opti coating , from there just wash your car once a week in the coin car wash with microfiber towels

I had my car opticoated last year and I went through a whole canadian winter with it since it is my daily. I drive it if its sunny , raining , snowing , and on the highway in an area where there are a lot of warehouses (trucks)
and I just used the coin car wash once a week , and I bring it to the car detailer once every 3 months to cure small scratches . I do not polish , wax or any of that since you do not have to do it anymore once you have opti coat, just a plain simple car wash which last about 5 minutes and a good 15 minutes of drying

Yeah I want to but none of these places list a price. Or their packages are screwy.. Some of them will list all these fancy packages but none of them include a true polish and wax.

Or some of them will say polish and wax but just be a one step insta shine package. Then when you call you the 125-160.00 job becomes 300.00

I've heard great things about opti-coat from other people on the forum, may have to give it a try.

Less about what people use and more about how clean and as little as imperfections a car has.

As long I do a good job detailing every 4 months or so, I can usually just spray down my car at a coin wash, rinse using the spot-free rinse, and have a clean car without ever touching it. As long as it's just dust, rain or light dirt.

A bit more work than driving through an automatic wash, but maybe something to think about if you're worried about damage.

Buy a few washing tools and use an auto bay for the sprayer and soap. That's what I do. Just spray off with the power wash, soap up, use a mitt and your own wax ect. I bring a wheel brush too.

So I bought the ultra package for 49.99 mostly so they would hand clean my wheels. It was def better than just being ran through the wash but I wouldn't say it was worth 49.99. They of course did leave brake dust on my wheels. But Hey, I can every day for a month until they get all the dust off.
