thats is such a bad story, i'd be too embarrased to post that. Congrats on the new car. i have a 325xi and am living in North Haven. Maybe i'll see ya on the road sometime. If your ever looking for an Awesome parking lot to drive in when it snows let me know, the old Pratt & Whittney lot is HUGE and theres nothing there.

BTW - anybody seen the just released pics of the '08 7-Series? Looks like a mid-model makeover - meaning same basic chassis and architecture, but totally new front and rear treatments and probably a revised interior. It was either in Automobile or C&D. I never understood how the auto press gushed over the "makeover" the 7 received last year, consisting of slightly wider kidney grills and a silver strip across the tail. Looks like the '08 will be the real thing.

I think i'm getting a little .

Pretty rare story as something like this could happen to a brand new car on its first day! It is definitely not funny if ever something serious had happened. Major accidents always happen when driver is in low alertness.

This reminded me a few months back, a lorry driver left his wife in an unattended car without properly handbrake. The minute he walked away from his car, the lorry slipped into the sea. The wife finally saved herself out.

I think it was his old car that this happened to, he just ordered the new one

but about your story, did the lorry's wife file for divorce!

I did something like this when I first got my new A4 four years ago. Drive it home, feeling good, all is well with the world. Park in the driveway. Go inside my house. Come out later and to my horror the car had rolled back out of the driveway and into the street. Luckily it didn't hit anything, and no car came around the bend and cleaned it up.

I made sure the handbrake was on tight ever since that heart stopping moment.

Glad you are comfortable sharing your embarassment with us.

No one has confided such a good story with me since my brother in law "shat" his car.

You know some sales guy saw it and was laughing his a.. off at his desk.

I did the same thing today, but it didn't roll. I got back to the car and thought that it was probably a dumb thing to do. I then tried to let the car roll and stop it with the handbrake. It stops pretty quick. Still, leaving a running car on a steep hill with no one in it is asking for trouble. Leaving a car running ANYWHERE with no one in it is also asking for trouble.

I always leave it in 1st, with brake on good and tight. Good lesson here though.

Thumbs up The wandering Escort

Another one: My first car was a Ford Escort GT. Its parking brake sometimes failed to grab, despite the handle being pulled.

I parked it one evening in the lot at the mall to have dinner at a restaurant there, choosing a space in the first row closest to the building perimeter. Several hours later I emerged with my date. Despite having been moderately crowded when we arrived, the parking lot was now almost empty. My car was not where I left it.

It took a moment of looking around to notice that it was now about a hundred and fifty feet behind where I had parked, nestled at the lowest drainage line through the middle of the parking lot. The car had apparently rolled backward for a while, and maybe even forward again, until it apparently settled at a stable local minimum.

To this day I can't see how it could have rolled around like that and not hit another car or lamppost in the lot.

I did almost the exact same thing at my Dealership this year when I had my TSX. I was at the Acura dealership, I did put up my parking brake, but not all the way up and I guess the hill was steep enough, luckily it rolled back real slow and didn't hit anyone or any cars. Was a bit imbarrasing though.

Needless to say I was really excited. I got back into my car, started it, then remembered that I really didn't want the dealer to put their decal on the car. I stopped the car, went back in and asked my sales rep not to deface my new car. No problem.

When I went back outside, my car was gone. GONE! It was just there now it was missing! Did someone steal it? Impossible, it was only 60 seconds. What had happened is that in my haste I had forgotten to set the parking brake. The car had rolled back out of the parking spot, narrowly missing 2 new 7 series, and proceeded to roll down the entrance ramp to the dealership. It was stopped by a curb about 5 feet short of rolling onto a major road. I quickly got in the car and drove away.

Talk about luck. I am such an idiot........
