Android Auto

Hi Folks

I picked up my new Gran Coupe 2 Series last week (iDrive 8, I think). However, when I was looking to configure Android Auto, the car's Apps Menu didn't have it, nor Apple Car Play for that matter. I have contacted the dealer and he was surprised as it should be there. I haven't heard anything back in a week and I was wondering if anyone would have any ideas about this? It's not a huge deal since the iDrive system pretty much does a great job but it would be nice to have it, just in case.

Thank in advance for any info

JW

Hey there, so you definitely have I Drive 7, But it is odd that Apple CarPlay and android auto aren’t showing up, do you use an iPhone? Have you connected to your iPhone to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in the car?

New cars are arriving without car play or aa as there is no wireless support for it installed due to parts supply issues. Your dealership should know all about this and how to retro the update in..

So what does this mean? That I won't ever have it or they will do an update?

Thank you.

Brand new car, I'm assuming I have iDrive 7 or possibly iDrive 8. I can't seem to find a way of finding this out.

Yeah, tried doing all the connecting via a cable and Bluetooth; no joy.

Cheers!

That is so strange, all F44s have iDrive 7, iDrive 8 is just coming out for the g42 3 series refresh, the IX, I4, new 7 series etc. Definitely go to your dealer and ask what’s going on, sucks about your troubles…

Thank you.
There’s an over the air update planned to restore the CarPlay and android auto. I can’t tell you if it’s out yet or not because my 228 is in production right now. You should be able to check for an update in the iDrive settings.

As above, I'd be asking of the dealership that seems not to know why they don't when it is common knowledge https://www.babybmw.net/threads/list....138573/page-8

Well, as if by magic, both Android Auto and Apple Car Play have magically appeared in my Apps Menu! So that's that!

I have a different problem with Android Auto. It constantly crashes every time I pass over a highway where there is a dead spot on my way to/from work. It has also happened in other areas randomly. It's so annoying to have to restart Android Auto.
