G23 courtesy car - back in a 3.0d
So the M340i is in for new head unit (and brake fluid) due to car play connectivity issues and just general crashing idrive.
The courtesy car lotto gave me a 430d convertible. Not my choice for ownership at all however I collected it on Friday and was due a weekend away with the Mrs and no kids, so ironically it kinda suited despite banterous abuse from neighbours! I was pleasantly surprised with it. Engine - owned 330d f series before my current car; this felt far more refined and I remember fondly how the torque makes for lazy driving. Not sure I’d go back to diesel but I acknowledge why there is still a real fan base for the derv. It only averaged 38mpg on a very much combined route over the weekend, which I’d thought would be better though. Refinement - very good and I was very impressed with how quiet it is with roof up. At motorway speeds you can feel the flex in the chassis and makes the roof creak quite a bit, but otherwise very quiet. Other points, the sound system was standard, and I know HK isn’t perfect however I couldn’t live with the standard system. It has Laser lights and yes they are impressive. Going back hopefully on Wednesday, am I looking forward to being back in the M340i…… for sure. And whilst this won’t ever be an ownership option it’s leaving me with a positive impression. |

Thanks for sharing. Lovely cars the cabriolets, so glad they went with soft top again this iteration. Always felt that the hardtop previous F and E generations didn't look as elegant.
I'd love to get something similar as a courtesy car. Alas, in London dealers don't even provide any courtesy cars at all (for servicing). But, diesel in a convertible has always made me wince. A convertible is all about the senses, including hearing. Diesel engines.... not so much! |

I have had a 530d 5 Series estate as a courtesy car and despite my hatred of diesels I thought it was an enjoyable if noisy drive. Happy to get back into my cathedral quiet 840 afterwards though!
Best courtesy car I had was when the dealer i bought my 328GT from was undertaking a significant repair to address a massive complaint (long story)…I jokingly asked for an 8:Series loaner…and was given the choice of an 840D convertible or an i8 Stupidly I went for the 840d as I thought it would be easy to get my golf clubs in. FAIL. Last edited by Seaford; 03-05-2023 at 05:00 AM.. |
